Welcome to the start of your child's BYOD journey! This page contains essential information to help you get your iPad ready for school.
We request that each student has an Apple iPad capable of running the latest version of iPadOS. We recommend current generation models, such as the iPad Air or the 11-inch iPad Pro, as they offer greater processing speed and storage (minimum 128GB), which will support your child's learning for years to come.
Connectivity: Devices must be Wi-Fi only and are not permitted to have a SIM card.
Operating System: The iPad must be updated to the latest version of iPadOS (currently iPadOS 26.1 as at November 2025).
Peripheral Equipment:
External Keyboards: Students must have their own external keyboard to assist with typing speed and ergonomic comfort during extended device use. We recommend a compact, wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, as these are easy to transport and help maintain a clean, organised workspace. Please note: Students should not bring other peripheral equipment, such as external mice or custom keycaps, to school. The school is not liable for the damage or loss of these items.
Headphones: Students must have their own headphones for audio and video content. We recommend a durable, over-the-ear style as they are generally safer for young hearing at appropriate volumes. Please note: Students should not bring other peripheral equipment, such as chargers or cables, to school. The school is not liable for the damage or loss of these items.
Protective Cases: Students are required to have a dedicated protective case or sleeve for their device. We strongly recommend a rugged, shock-absorbent case (often referred to as "military-grade" or "drop-tested") to safeguard against accidental bumps and falls. Please note: The school is not liable for damage or loss resulting from insufficient protection or accidental handling.
Stylus Pens (Apple Pencil): The use of a stylus pen is at the discretion of parents and caregivers. While a stylus can be a helpful tool for digital ink, drawing diagrams, or annotating notes, it is not a mandatory requirement for all subjects. If you choose to provide a stylus, we recommend one that can be securely stored within the device's case. Please note: The school is not liable for the damage or loss of these items.
Apple ID & App Downloads: An Apple ID is required to download apps. You can use an existing family Apple ID or create a new one for your child's iPad. We recommend that parents maintain control of the Apple ID password. Students are not permitted to download apps at school to ensure all content is approved.
School Email: Each student receives a school email account upon enrolment, which can be found under your child's name in Compass.
Personal Accounts: While personal email accounts may exist on the iPad, they must not be accessed at school. All school-related communication and activity must be conducted via their school email account.
Family Sharing: Ensure the iPad is not linked to another family member's personal accounts. Parental Controls & Internet Safety We strongly encourage parents to use the built-in parental controls to manage their child's device. Enable Screen Time: Go to Settings > Screen Time to manage content and privacy restrictions. This allows you to set downtime, app limits, and content restrictions.
App & Updates: To prevent unapproved downloads and manage data usage at school, disable automatic downloads. Go to Settings > App Store, and turn off Automatic Downloads for Apps and App Updates.
Google SafeSearch: Activate the SafeSearch filter by visiting www.google.com/preferences and checking the box to "Turn on SafeSearch."
VPN and Our Secure Network: For your child's safety, VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) are strictly prohibited on their school-issued device. A VPN bypasses our school's content filters and firewalls, compromising our efforts to provide a secure and safe online environment. To check for a VPN: Go to Settings > General > VPN. The only option you should see is "Add VPN Configuration...". If any other VPN configuration is listed, even if disconnected, it must be removed.
Device Care & Responsibility Case: Your child's iPad must be kept in a sturdy, protective case with an integrated kickstand.
Charging: The iPad must be fully charged every night at home.
Updates: Please ensure all iPadOS and app updates are completed at home to avoid disruptions to learning. Older models may not be able to run the latest software, which can affect performance. Passcode: Set a secure passcode and ensure your child does not share it. School Protocols: iPads are to be stored in the classroom during the school day. iPads are to remain in students bags while travelling to and fro school. Insurance: We recommend you consider adding the iPad to your Home & Contents insurance as the school is not responsible for the cost of damaged, lost, or stolen devices. Required Accessories Protective Case: As noted above, a sturdy, protective case is mandatory.
