This artwork is a depiction of how social media is clouding and corrupting our minds of what should and shouldn’t be expected from someone like a teen. Things like Instagram and other social media platforms are making most teenagers follow a fixed path to look a certain way, act a certain way and talk a certain way and live a certain way. This drawing was made by the talented Thomas Yick of class 81. The drawing of the teenager in a dark room shows his isolation from society and his insomnia due to his addiction to being with his phone and the internet. The thought bubbles show his desires and each symbol all have meaning to how teenagers put things like phones and social media over health and relationships. The book symbol shows knowledge and how its yellowish aura is dim depicting the teens' care for it is minuscule compared to the phone and social media. Another problem with social media is that teens and adults alike look at these supermodels gaining love and fame and think if they look the way they do then they too will have love and fame but most of the time teens and people are injured and or push themselves and others away. The heart symbol represents his desire for friendship, romance, and family but he thinks of himself as not good enough because of how the public perceives beauty. The money symbol shows his desire for more wealth and luxury as the internet perceives his iphone 10 as an old antique phone compared to something like the iphone 13. The final symbol is the phone and social media. It has the biggest aura because his addiction has become so big that it’s another part of him and he can’t leave it alone. He's active 24/7. The whole artwork drawn by Thomas Yick in short is the drawing and imagery of how teens slowly can and will if not protected grow attached to their phones and lack necessities such as sleep and socialising.
