Positive Education and Mindfulness Education at All Hallows
The children have been learning about the different parts of their brain and how those different parts work. These have been introduced to the students using different animal names to help them conceptualise what each area of the brain does and how they work together.
WiseOwl (Prefrontal Cortex) helps you make decisions. It solves problems and carries out higher-order thinking.
Guard Dog (Amygdala) keeps you safe at all costs. If it senses danger, it lets you Fight, Freeze or Flee without even thinking about it.
Elephant (Hippocampus) locks in happy memories and stores important information you learn.
Sifting Sooty (Reticular Activating System RAS) helps you focus!
I encourage you to ask your child about the Animals in their brain! Children have been learning different strategies and mindfulness techniques to help them strengthen or calm these areas in the brain. I will share these strategies and mindfulness techniques with you through the newsletter.
