Friends of Ours

NIU STEAM Outreach

Every year, NIU STEAM joins us for our Science Olympiad by presenting interactive exploration booths.  Jeremy Benson also presents special STEM shows that our individually catered to our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. NIU STEAM also offers SO much for local learners, including STEAM club opportunities, STEM Cafés, podcasts, and of course, STEMFest which occurs on NIU's campus every October.

SMS News

Have you seen our SMS News broacasts?  Over the last several years, Mrs. Anderson has helped grow this program and studio into a Sycamore Middle School staple.  SMS News is instrumental in our Science Olympiad, helping us do everything from getting the word out to the public to covering the highlights of our event.  Plus, students enrolled in this class are actually charged with filming and producing an entire newscast...LIVE!  It's amazing.

Dekalb County Farm Bureau

For years, our 8th graders have gone on "The Farm Trip" which is a full day excursion exploring what happens in local Ag.  In addition, we are happy to have the Farm Bureau and FFA at our Science Olympiad every year.  The most notable exhibit includes a large, inflatable soil tunnel.

Sycamore Park District

Did you know we have an absolute gem of a resource right in our own backyard(s)?   The Sycamore Park District is doing amazing things.  First of all, local ecologist (and Science Olympiad partner) Nicholas McCarney is active on the park's YouTube Channel where he answers "Nature Hotline" questions.  Also, there are clubs he instructs that can often be found on the main website.

SycoSTEM CTE Department

Mr. Boltz and Mr. Horan have done wonders with the CTE room, transforming the program with into a woodshop/CNC lab/makerspace.  Our department has worked with "SycoSTEM" a lot over the years.  The product Julia made in the picture above speaks for itself; we consider the STEM department an incredibly valuable asset to our building.

NIU SWE

NIU SWE (Society of Women Engineers) has been a very big part of our department in recent years.  Specifically, their chapter has worked with our G-Force club, providing lessons and materials to our female students interested in STEM.  In addition, their booth was a hit our 2022 Science Olympiad!  We are very grateful for this partnership.
