My name is Maria Sohn and I currently teach Technology to 1st and 2nd grade students at Stratton School and STEAM: Financial Literacy to 6th grade students at Walter Hill School.
This is my 24rd year teaching in the Swedesboro-Woolwich School District. Throughout the years I have taught every grade from Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. I began as a Kindergarten teacher, then I moved to Third Grade. I taught Third Grade for 7 years. After that, I began teaching Technology to students in 3rd - 5th Grade, then moved to Technology Grades 1, 2, and 6. As time progresses subjects taught sometimes change. Technology in Grades 3-6 was replaced with STEM Instruction, so I taught STEM in Grade 6 for two years. Times continue to change, and now Financial Literacy is a required content area to be taught in 6th Grade.
Both my personal strengths and my educational background support the subjects that I teach. I have a Bachelor's degree from St. Joseph's University. I majored in Food Marketing and Accounting. I worked in Retail and Marketing Management for several years. When my son was born I decided that I no longer wanted to work the hours and travel as required by my position. I accepted a position in a daycare center, where my son was enrolled, and then decided to pursue my teacher certification. After I became certified, I continued my education by earning a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, and a second Master's Degree in Instructional Technology at Wilmington University.
Outside of school time I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, playing video games, and knitting. My favorite reading genres are historical fiction, mysteries, and suspense novels.
I am very excited to get to know you!
