Fundations Drill Sounds/Words - using Fundations flash cards (in your folder) or use the following links:

Word work involves the use of hands-on activities to help students learn sight words, spelling patterns, and the connections between letters and sounds. Some of the activities we use during our word work centers are:

  • building words with letter tiles, beads, and blocks

  • playing alphabet and word games (such as go fish, concentration, snap, or bingo)

  • writing letters/words in sand, constructing letters/words with play dough or putty

In addition to word word centers, we also do a lesson each day based on Wilson Fundations. Fundations is a systematic program in critical foundational skills, emphasizing:

          • Phonemic awareness

          • Phonics/ word study

          • High frequency word study

          • Reading fluency

          • Vocabulary

          • Comprehension strategies

          • Handwriting

          • Spelling

Please check your child's homework planner for weekly parent pages from the Fundations program. These pages will contain activities and techniques for you to use at home to reinforce the concepts that we are working on in school. If you need an extra copy of the home pages, you can download them below. Kindergarten and First Grade students are starting out with level K and Second Graders in Level 1.
