Here are some fun math games to try!
This year, we will spend our afternoons working in math centers. Each center will be focused on helping students develop and practice specific mathematical skills based on the Common Core State Standards
We are using SplashLearn in class this year. To enable your child to complete assigned tasks and access books at home, please sign up on SplashLearn for free.
Steps to set up home access:
1. Go to https://slearn.me/w5VLRYv
2. Select your child’s profile
3. Sign up for home access to complete setup
I’m happy to tell you about a resource your child is using to support math learning in the classroom. Happy Numbers provides engaging exercises that build deep conceptual understanding in math. It moves children along at their own pace based on responses and provides helpful feedback after any errors. Because it is web-based, your child can use Happy Numbers from home at any time! Your child will be familiar with these simple steps to use Happy Numbers:
Here are some fun games that we found on a great site called GregTangMath.com
The development of number sense is the basis of our math instruction. We practice counting, matching numbers with quantities, comparing numbers (quantities), and putting numbers in order through all kinds of hands-on activities and games.
When students learn to organize numbers into groups of tens, they can begin to understand larger quantities. With this understanding, they can move on to adding, subtracting, (and later, multiplying and dividing). We use tools like ten frames, base ten blocks, and cuisenaire rods.
We use many different tools and methods (such as ten frames, part-part-whole mats, fact family triangles, number lines, cuisenaire rods, and a wide variety of manipulative objects) to learn about operations and algebraic thinking. Students learn to work with addition and subtraction equations and to understand how addition and subtraction are related.
