Dear SCMS Students, Parents, and Guardians,
As we enter the month of October, it is hard to believe how quickly the school year is moving! October 2nd will mark the conclusion of our first quarter, providing us with an opportunity to reflect on all that our students and staff have accomplished during the first nine weeks of school.
I could not be more pleased with the way this school year has started. Our students have demonstrated tremendous effort, growth, and school spirit, while our staff continues to work each day to provide meaningful learning experiences and opportunities for every student. From the classroom to extracurricular activities, we continue to see the qualities that make Switzerland County Middle School such a special place.
Fall Break will take place the week of October 5th, and I hope our students, staff, and families take advantage of this time to rest, recharge, and enjoy some time together. When we return, we will quickly transition into the second quarter and the many exciting opportunities that come with it.
We are also looking forward to the beginning of our winter sports seasons in the very near future. Athletics provide our students with valuable opportunities to develop teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and school pride. I encourage our families and community to continue supporting our students as they represent SCMS both on and off the court.
Most importantly, I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible partnership between our students, staff, and parents. A successful school does not happen because of one person or one group. It happens when we work together with a common purpose. Each day, our students are challenged to Do the Right Thing, our staff works tirelessly to support them, and our parents and families continue to encourage and partner with us.
Thank you for helping make Switzerland County Middle School a positive, supportive, and welcoming place for our students. I feel incredibly fortunate to serve as the principal of SCMS, and I am excited about what the remainder of this school year will bring.
Thank you for your continued support, partnership, and belief in our students. Go Pacers!

What is your favorite dessert?
My favorite dessert is anything with a little chocolate on it or in it.
What's your favorite quote?
A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered.
Proverbs 17:27
Do you have pets? If so, describe them?
I have a dog named Rudy, he is 15 years old and he can no longer hear. He refuses to come inside whether it is hot weather or cold.
What is one thing you hope your students remember about you years from now?
I hope my students remember how much I care about them and want them to succeed in life.
Brenna Pietrykowski-8th Grade Science
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I am more of a morning person. I like to be able to get up and get things done early so that I can enjoy the rest of the day. In the summertime, I am able to get up before my children and do any chores that may need to be done outside before the heat of the day sets in.
What is your favorite thing about teaching middle school?
My favorite thing about teaching middle school is the sense of humor many of the students bring. These kids can be so much fun to be around.
What's your favorite quote?
One of my favorite quotes is "Your circumstances are temporary, but your character lasts forever." -Rick Warren. I have it taped to the bottom of my computer screen, and I think it is also important for middle school students. Just because life may not be going the way you want it to right now doesn't mean it will be this way forever. How you respond and act could have a longer-lasting impact than just on your current circumstances.
