Dear SCMS Students, Parents, and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! I hope each of you had a wonderful summer filled with time to relax, recharge, and make lasting memories with family and friends. As we begin another exciting year at Switzerland County Middle School, I want to express how truly honored and blessed I am to serve as your principal. I look forward to partnering with our students, families, staff, and community to make this our best year yet.
At SCMS, our motto is simple but powerful: "Do the Right Thing" (DTRT). While these four words are easy to say, they represent the values we strive to live out each day. Doing the right thing means treating others with kindness and respect, making responsible choices, working hard in the classroom, showing integrity when no one is watching, and helping create a school where everyone feels welcomed and valued. It is a mindset that guides our decisions and shapes the culture we want every student to experience.
One of the most important ways we can help students succeed is through a strong partnership between home and school. Open, honest, and consistent communication allows us to work together to support each child's academic growth while also nurturing their social and emotional well-being. We encourage parents and guardians to reach out whenever questions or concerns arise. Together, we can celebrate successes, overcome challenges, and ensure every student has the support they need to thrive.
We also encourage every student to become involved beyond the classroom. Switzerland County Middle School offers a variety of extracurricular activities, clubs, and athletic opportunities that allow students to discover new interests, build confidence, develop leadership skills, and create lifelong friendships. These experiences are an important part of a well-rounded middle school education. If you would like more information about any of our programs or activities, please contact our front office at (812) 427-3809. We would be happy to help connect your child with opportunities that match their interests.
As your principal, I want you to know that providing a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for every student is our highest priority. Every decision we make is centered on what is best for our students. We are committed to creating a school where children feel safe, respected, challenged, and encouraged to reach their full potential each and every day.
To our students, I challenge you to embrace our DTRT motto in everything you do this year. Come to school each day with a positive attitude, put forth your best effort, be kind to others, and never be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Every day presents a new opportunity to learn, grow, and make a positive difference in our school community.
Thank you for trusting us with your children. We are excited to partner with you throughout the 2026-2027 school year. Together, by communicating openly, supporting one another, and remembering to Do the Right Thing, I know we can make this an outstanding year for every Pacer.
I can't wait to see all of our students on the first day of school.
Go Pacers!
Sincerely,
Mark Boggs

Use EVENTLINK to stay up-to-date on all sporting events.
At Switzerland County Middle School, we are committed to creating a focused learning environment where every student can thrive. This year, SCMS is adopting a device-light approach to minimize distractions, reduce unnecessary screen time, and boost student engagement and collaboration.
To support this effort, student cell phones must be powered off and stored in lockers from 8:00 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. Additionally, Chromebooks issued at Open House will stay at home, with school-provided devices used in class only when technology directly enhances learning.
By balancing intentional technology use with screen-free collaboration, we ensure students stay fully engaged while still building essential digital skills. We appreciate our families' partnership in supporting these expectations!
