Mrs Streett went into the classrooms this year for Library Orientation. Due to COVID students now have access to more ebooks and audeo books. Students added the Follett Destiny Discover Chrome Extension for easy access to the school library catalog and were hown how to find books and make hold requests. Students also added a bookmark to their Chrome web browser for Overdrive's Sora app giving them immediate access to the school's 800+ ebooks and audio books as well as 15,000+ ebooks and audio books at the Switzerland County Public Library.

In addition, students whose parents gave permission during registration, received SCPL card giving them access to Public Library materials and access to Hoopla, a new library subscription service offering movies, music and even more e books and audio books.

This is the second year to have a dedicated class for SCHS News. This year Pat Lanman from the Vevay Newspapers is helping us out on Fridays. Mr. Lanman helps students with story ideas and strategies for telling stories both digitally and in print.

In the picture above is a Zoom call with Jake Ryle with Channel 9 News in Cincinnati. Mr. Ryle answered student questions about news reporting ans has offered to help out by meeting again as students get deeper into their stories.

This summer Mrs Streett was chosen to attend PBS Student Reporting Labs Teacher workshop for a week in July. Due to COVID19 the workshop was conducted through Zoom. This program includes 1500 schools across the United States and provides a curriculum as well as opportunites for students to participate in nationals news through PBS assigned projects and Rapid Responses, where PBS asks students a question and students video diary answers back to PBS. Our school was assigned a PBS Mentor, Victor Fernandez. Students can meet with Mr. Fernandez through Zoom to get professional help with their video news.

This year we transitioned from Poetry Club, once a week during club time, to Poetry Class, everyday 3rd period. This has enabled us to dig a lot deeper into the elements of poetry, analyzing poetry and writing our own poetry.
