About the TSI
What is the TSI test?
The TSI test or Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 is a college placement exam mandatory for all non-exempt students going into college. It's usually around $30 but at Legacy High School, we pay the fees for our students!
Why is taking the TSI test important?
Simply taking the TSI test once makes a student eligible to enter college. Schools need to measure your college readiness level to decide what your beginner Math and English college courses should be.
why is passing the tsi important in high school?
Passing the TSI test is important for all who seek to earn college credit.
The following are all common reasons that students try to pass the TSI test before senior graduation:
To prepare for your first semester in college/university
To enter Early College High School
To enter Alamo Academies
To enter a dual credit course
Who is Exempt?
Students who have met the following requirements are exempt:
Met the minimum college readiness standard on the
SAT, Reading & Writing - 480, Math - 530
ACT, English - 18, Math - 22
or the English III and Algebra II STAAR tests.
Have successfully completed a high school College Prep Course
Have successfully completed college-level courses
Have enrolled in a Level-One Certificate program (less than 43 credit hrs)
Are not seeking a college degree

Algebraic Reasoning (Algebra I & II)
Geometric & Spatial Reasoning (Geometry)
Statistical & Probabilistic Reasoning (Middle-school level probability)

The ELAR section of the TSI test covers
Literary & Informational Text Analysis and Synthesis (Reading)
Essay & Sentence Revision & Editing (Writing)
Essay Writing (Persuasive Essay)
