Mr. Gonzalez’s love for music began when he started taking piano lessons at a young age. When the time came to make a decision in middle school band as to which instrument Tim was going to play he decided he was going to be a percussionist. However, as the fates would have it, Tim would switch to saxophone in his 8th grade year. His previous musical experience helped him rise to the challenge of being a second year saxophonist in a large, competitive high school band program.
After high school, Mr. Gonzalez marched with the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band from 2002-2003. The following year, he met a guitarist at a coffee house gig and they would go on to form a band called Eleven35 with a drummer and a bassist. He played alto sax and tenor sax with Eleven35 from 2003 until he went back to college in 2009.
Mr. Gonzalez’s musical career took its biggest step forward when he decided to earn his degree in Music Education from the University of Texas- San Antonio. While there, he studied saxophone under some great instructors. His first instruction on saxophone was with the French-trained David Debus. he then took jazz improvisation lessons from the late, great, Morgan King. His next saxophone teacher, Dr. Rami El-Farrah, studied with Harvey Pittel. Under the direction of esteemed conductors, such as Dr. Robert Rustowicz (retired), Dr. Donald Miller, Dr. Eugene Dowdy (orchestra), Dr. John Zarco, Dr. Utah Hamrick (Jazz Ensemble) and Professor Ron Ellis, Tim developed his now excellent musicality.
From 2014-2020 Mr. Gonzalez was the Director of Bands at Dwight Middle School in the South San Antonio ISD, where he earned his and the school’s very first Sweepstakes award at the 2020 UIL Concert and Sightreading contest. Currently Mr. Gonzalez is the Director of Bands at McAuliffe Middle School in SWISD. His primary instrument is Saxophone but is a master at all woodwinds.
