Why I decide to become a Peer Counselor:

I became a Peer Counselor because I knew I wanted to be an additional support system for students. It’s a great feeling when you are able to make a difference in someone's life.

My favorite quote and why:

“In order to see a rainbow, you have to get through the rain.”

This is my favorite quote because I think it reminds people that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Extracurricular activities I’m involved in:

  • St. Paul’s Plaza volunteer
  • Softball
  • CSF officer

P. 2 Zach Ramos

Why I decide to become a Peer Counselor:

I became a Peer Counselor because I love helping people with anything. I give my 100% and more and my goal is to leave Olympian High School knowing I made a difference in students lives putting a smile on each and every face.

My favorite quote and why:

“Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And today is a gift, that is why they call it the present.”- Master Oogway

This is my favorite quote because everyone has the chance to change or be better than they were previously. The past doesn’t shape the person you are today and the future isn’t created until you make the present.

Extracurricular activities I’m involved in:

  • Varsity Wrestling Captain
  • Volunteer at a community church

My message to students:

Let your smile change the world, but don’t let the world change your smile. Be the superhero of your own story. Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations but the power is in your hands. Everyday may not be a good day, but there will always be support here if you ever need it. :)

P. 3 Kiersten Aviles

Why I decide to become a Peer Counselor:

I became a Peer Counselor for the sole purpose of helping the growth of others and myself. I wanted to have the privilege of being a peer counselor because it provides the special opportunity to manifest into becoming a better person. After Intro to Peer Mediation, I decided not only to proceed onto the Advanced Peer Mediation class but as well as the Peer Counseling program to provide guidance and support on campus allowing for me to consistently practice my peer mediation skills. Thus, ultimately enabling me to develop a greater understanding of people and life itself which is essential for my own growth. Also, with being a teen there’s only so much I can do to help my community, but with being a peer counselor it is empowering that I have the opportunity to share my knowledge to students as a Peer Counselor, Advanced Peer Mediator, and as a friend.

My favorite quote and why:

“You have the power to do anything you want as long as it doesn’t hurt yourself and others”-Danny Tanner from TV Sitcom, “Full House”

This quote heavily resonates with me because when I am feeling scared or nervous about something, it reminds me that I have the power to accomplish whatever I want. I run on free-will, allowing me to be in control of my actions and venture out to try new things! As I grow into a young adult, more doors of opportunities are open and even though I tend to have the nervous butterflies in my stomach, this quote it gives me the strength to transform my fear into power. This saying also reminds me to think unselfishly. It reminds me to be considerate of my own wellbeing and others. I not only want to improve our world for myself but as well as those around me.

Extracurricular activities I’m involved in:

  • Class of 2020 President
  • Link Crew leader

Why I decide to become a Peer Counselor:

I personally wanted to become a Peer Counselor because one of the ideas I live most by is everyone deserves love and happiness. So for me to be in a position where I could implement that by helping people however I can, being there when they feel no one is, and brightening their day by whatever means I can is why I am a Peer Counselor.

My favorite quote and why:

"Live as if you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you were to live forever" -Mahatma Gandhi

The reason this is my favorite quote is because I always try to live life in the moment and enjoy every second. I also will never pass on an opportunity to grow and continue to gain knowledge.

Extracurricular activities I’m involved in:

  • Teen Court
  • Girls' Water Polo Manager

It's always ok to feel angry, sad, stressed, etc. in the moment, but with my help and yours we can make sure it will not stay like that forever. All of the Peer Counselors, including myself, will do everything in our power to help you through your hardships.

P. 5 Rosanna Javier

Why I decide to become a Peer Counselor:

I decided to become a Peer Counselor because I wanted to make sure our campus is one that is welcoming, accepting, and positive for all. I am very passionate about helping others, so I want to put my passion into action and be as supportive as possible to everyone on campus.

My favorite quote and why:

“The task ahead of you is never greater than the strength within you”

This is my favorite quote because it encourages you to truly understand yourself as a human being. It also helps you realize that you're stronger than you think and anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

Extracurricular activities I’m involved in:

  • Girl Scout Ambassador, Silver & Gold Award Recipient
  • Link Crew President & Leader
  • Varsity Cross Country and Track & Field Captain
  • Junior Leader at Sharp Hospital

My message to students:

It is okay to not be at 100% all of the time. If you ever need any extra support, please don’t hesitate to come talk to one of the Peer Counselors!

P. 6 Angelina Scalera

Why I decide to become a Peer Counselor:

I purposefully decided to become a Peer Counselor because I myself have experienced times in my life when I felt like I had no one to turn to, although through these past few years I have learned to turn my pain into power and purpose. Above all, I wholeheartedly am a person who is there to give my undivided attention to listen to people when they need someone to talk to, I am a person who will be the shoulder that people will cry on, most importantly I am a person who is supportive and deeply cares about breaking the stigma on mental health.

My favorite quote and why:

“No matter how chaotic the past has been, the future is a clean, fresh, wide-open slate. You are not your past habits or failures. You are not how others have at one time treated you. You are only who you think you are right now in this moment. You are only what you do right now at this moment.”

This is my favorite quote because it encourages people to be in the present and live in the present, it emphasizes not being ashamed of your past self and that instead we should become accepting and learn to take our past experiences and grow into someone better and stronger.

Extracurricular activities I’m involved in:

  • Advanced Peer Mediation
  • Guitar
  • Teen Court

My message to students:

It’s okay to not feel 100% all the time, most importantly its okay to cry and talk about how you’re feeling. Never hesitate to talk to a trusted adult, friend, teacher, school counselor, or even us peer counselors to talk about how you’re feeling. Whether your situation be big or small your feelings matter! Most importantly you matter! Make sure to take care of yourself eagles because self care is the best care!
