CSF – California Scholarship Federation
Olympian High’s Academic Honor Society – CSF Chapter 1323
CSF membership is neither automatic nor retroactive. A student must take an active part by applying for membership within the application period, which is generally held near the start of each new semester. No late applications are permitted.
One objective of CSF is to teach responsibility, especially in meeting deadlines. Therefore, membership will not be awarded if a student fails to apply by the deadline date. New students enrolling after the application period must notify the CSF advisor within the same semester of their potential eligibility based on their academic record and CSF membership at the former school; official transcripts will be required for a status review.
CSF dues help pay for the state charter dues, certificates, and graduation stoles and other recognition. Applications and CSF course lists will be available on this website and on the form only during the application period. Since eligibility for membership in CSF begins with the completion of the first semester of 10th grade, 9th graders are not eligible for membership. Additionally, since eligibility for membership in CSF opens with the completion of the first semester of 10th grade if a student starts applying in the 11th grade, they can still qualify for Life Membership as long as 4 qualified semesters are registered (including both semesters in the senior year). A grade of a D or F in scholarship or citizenship automatically disqualifies that semester; each semester is a fresh start to count towards the 4 required semesters (including one or both semester[s] in the senior year).
CSF Lifetime Membership:
Students who qualify must register each semester beginning in the 10th grade. Students who qualify and register for four semesters of membership (including one or both semester[s] in the senior year) based on semester grades are potentially eligible for CSF Life Membership. Life Members will be honored at the graduation ceremony. Seniors are required to complete service hours to earn this recognition at graduation--8 hours related to CSF activities
Seniors who have been members of CSF for at least FOUR semesters (Sophomore to Senior years), one of which is in their senior year, are considered LIFE MEMBERS. Life members graduate with honors. Life members are able to wear a gold sash at graduation and are recognized on awards night with a certificate (as long as they belonged to CSF the 1st semester of their senior year). Students will also receive a gold seal on their diplomas and recognition on their transcripts.
HOW TO QUALIFY FOR CSF MEMBERSHIP AND GRADUATE WITH RECOGNITION:
A. You must earn a minimum of (10) points every semester. You must apply every semester.
You must use no more than (5) courses to qualify (see provided course list: 2022-2023 for more info). Minimum of 4 classes
No CSF points are granted for physical education, courses taken in lieu of physical education, subjects repeated to improve a grade, office aide, lab assistant, and courses taken on a pass/fail basis.
CSF points are granted as follows: A = (3) CSF points, B=(1) CSF point, C=(0) CSF points. A (D) or (F) in any course disqualifies you from membership. One additional point is given for a grade of (A) or (B) in an AP, or Honors course, up to a maximum of two such points per semester.
B. Important Information about Membership:
Semester membership is based on work done in the previous semester.
You must reapply each semester.
To receive Life (Sealbearer) Membership and graduate with a GOLD sash you must have a minimum of (4) eligible semesters (one of which must be from senior year) beginning with the second semester of 10th grade.
NEW: ***To earn DISTINGUISHED Life Membership and graduate with GOLD SASH and Distinguished CSF cord, students MUST earn ALL six possible semesters AND have earned required qualifying volunteer hours.
APPLICATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH SEMESTER
