This training—developed by the Special Services Behavior Support Team at Sweetwater Union High School District—focuses on mastering behavioral data collection to drive objective Individualized Education Program (IEP) decisions, accurate Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and effective classroom supports.
Define Observable & Measurable Behaviors: Shift from subjective labels to precise, observable topographies (e.g., "throwing objects" or "calling out") to ensure accurate data tracking.
Differentiate Incident Reports from Emergency Reports: Learn when to use an Incident Report (IR) for high-level tracking versus a Behavior Emergency Report (BER) when unpredictable behaviors require immediate emergency interventions.
Utilize Multiple Data Collection Methods: Select and implement appropriate measurement strategies, including Frequency, Duration, Latency, Interval, and Severity scales.
Identify Behavioral Functions: Collect Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence (ABC) data to determine whether behaviors are driven by Escape, Attention, Tangible access, or Sensory needs.
To Request/Schedule: Contact your district school psychologist or the BeST team to set up a session date and location.
