An "AAC" system or device refers to Augmentative and Alternative Communication system used by students with complex communication needs to augment or replace their natural voice due to multiple reasons from Autism to Intellectual challenges. An AAC device, is a dedicated device used to communicate with peers, community members and other people in a social or conversational setting. Although students (clients) may have some speech, or verbalization their words or phrase may not be understood by unfamiliar people. Therefore the use of an AAC device, or system benefits both the communicator and listener.
Depending on the degree of ability to effectively communicate, the student may be frustrated which may in-turn be displayed by maladaptive behaviors.
AAC devices may be lo-tech for example; static devices, communication boards, PECS, and/or single switch communicators. We provide high-tech communication systems such as; AAC Apps on a dynamic device (iPad) or, in dedicated equipment known as Speech Generated Devices (SGD) such as Tobii or NovaChat.
