• Have good spoken and written knowledge of Swedish.

• Be a highly qualified PhD student enrolled at a university outside Sweden and permanently residing outside Sweden.

• Have registered their doctoral research topic and be in the final stage of their PhD studies. The scholarship is intended to help the recipient complete their dissertation.

• Have concrete plans for their international or intercultural research, including an established contact with a university or academic institution abroad. This contact must be documented with an admission letter, invitation letter or equivalent documentation.

• Be willing to give presentations to SWEA members, both in Sweden and abroad, and participate in SWEA Live. SWEA chapters inviting the scholarship recipient to speak may cover related expenses when necessary.

• Be prepared to provide a brief account of how the scholarship will be used at the time the scholarship is awarded.

• Submit a report to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee explaining how the scholarship funds were used, no later than March 31 of the year following receipt of the scholarship. The Committee Chair will forward the report to the SWEA International Treasurer.

Independence from SWEA

To ensure independence and avoid conflicts of interest:

• The applicant must not have been a SWEA member or actively involved in SWEA during the three years preceding the year of application.

• The applicant's close relatives must also not have been SWEA members during the same three-year period.

• Close relatives include spouses, registered partners or cohabitants, children, stepchildren, adopted children and grandchildren, parents and grandparents, siblings, parents-in-law, sons- and daughters-in-law, as well as other people with a close personal, financial or professional relationship that could reasonably create an actual or potential conflict of interest. This may include, for example, a close friend, business partner, supervisor or student.

1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

A detailed description of the subject of your doctoral dissertation. Please clearly state the research field, as well as the methods and theories you will use.

If you include published or forthcoming articles that are not written in Swedish or English, please provide an English-language abstract for each article.

Please also state whether any part of your research has been conducted in Sweden and describe any contacts you have established with Swedish universities or academic institutions.

A description of how you would use the scholarship funds if awarded.

3. Short Personal Presentation in Swedish

Please introduce yourself briefly in Swedish. Your presentation should address the following questions:

• How did you hear about the scholarship?

• What sparked your interest in Sweden and the Swedish language?

• How would you describe yourself as a researcher?

• What led you to choose the subject of your doctoral dissertation?

• How would you structure a presentation about your research for SWEA members?

4. Two Letters of Recommendation

One of the letters must be written by your academic supervisor or equivalent at your institution.

Those writing the recommendation letters should:

• Be familiar with the focus and purpose of the scholarship.

• Be familiar with your research topic and confirm that it has been formally registered.

• Be able to comment directly on important aspects of your research.

• Explain their relationship to you and why they believe it is important that your research project be completed.

At least one recommendation letter should:

• Confirm your knowledge of the Swedish language.

• Describe your qualifications and experience as a lecturer or presenter, which will be taken into consideration by the jury.

A recommendation letter from a Swedish academic institution is considered an advantage.

5. Additional Supporting Documents

The Scholarship Committee may request documentation of relevant language skills if needed.

All applications and supporting documents must be received by the Scholarship Committee by this date.

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

The scholarship may be reclaimed in whole or in part if the payment violates the scholarship conditions, the funds are not used as described in the application, or incorrect information has been provided.
