Figurative Language Cheat-Sheet
Simile -- A comparison between two things using the words like or as.
“My dad was like a lion when he saw my grade card; he was so mad about my bad grades.”
Metaphor -- A direct comparison between two things, DOES NOT use the words like or as.
“My dad was a lion when he saw my grade card; he was so mad about my bad grades.”
Alliteration -- the same sound repeated in a statement, used for emphasis.
“My dad demanded to see my disappointing grade card, daring me to defy his request.”
Personification -- Giving human traits to non-human things.
“My grade card was staring at me, daring me to hide it from my father.”
