Novel Unit : Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing


Reading Comprehension Unit 3 :

  • Students will master how to sound out, spell, and comprehend words with less common vowel consonant patterns (igh/y/ie and ir/ire/ier). Students will fluently read and spell 12 sight words pulled from the Fry second 100 word list. Text passages are at level H or Lexile Level 300L-400L. The comprehension skill is sequencing a story or passage.

Writing/Editing:

  • Elements of a paragraph: Topic sentence, details, closing sentence
  • Sentence editing: "CUPS"-"Capitalization", "Usage", "Punctuation", "Spelling"
  • Writing topic: Field Museum Fieldtrip/Free Choice

Vocabulary:

  • Define and provide synonyms/antonyms for Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing vocabulary for chapters 5-6
  • supervise, demonstrate, considered, examining, rearrange, surrounded




Math

  • Addition & Subtraction with regrouping
  • Enough/not enough money to cover the price of an item

    • Discuss how text messages and emails can be confusing (no social cues like tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, etc.) and how to ask for clarification if message is confusing
