Curriculum overview

Design & Technology is essentially about designing and making products which make our lives better.

In KS3 the curriculum is taught on a carousel system, where pupils change topic area four times throughout the year. The main focus is on making skills, using a range of materials, through projects involving wood, metal, plastics, electronics & microcontrollers, structures & mechanisms, theatre set design, and also food & nutrition.

KS4 then builds on those skills through a project based curriculum, where greater emphasis is put on designing, including drawing, modelling and 3D CAD. The final design and make project forms 50% of the assessment marks, the other 50% being a final exam of D&T theory.

The course is enjoyed by a mix of boys and girls, who go on to further education courses and careers in design, engineering and a myriad of related fields.
