Key Stage 3

Our Key Stage 3 curriculum

The Key Stage 3 dance curriculum is designed around learning the basic dance actions and chorographic tools. This is delivered through topics ranging from creative dance responding to literature or art to Strictly Come Dancing to cultural dance such as capoeira. The year 7 course focusses on safe practice and exploring all movement components; it allows students to grasp the value of group work and learning to create with intention. Year 8 explores stylistic features of many genres of dance, and how to develop movement; allows students to flourish in performance and confidence at expressing themselves.

The dance department promotes an inclusive, dance for everyone policy regardless of ability or gender. Students are encouraged to think creatively, work together as a team and to perform regularly to their peers. Key Stage 3 dance builds confidence, resilience and commitment whilst developing physical capacity and learning appreciation of an art form.

EVERYONE IS A PERFORMER!

Every year the dance department collaborates with another department in school to create a cross curricular performance project. Projects in the past have ranged from plate tectonics in Geography to life cycles with Biology. The end product, created and performed by the whole of Year 7, is performed in the Borlase theatre in front of a live audience.

Most recently we have collaborated with the English department on three projects 'The Lost Words' and 'Humanite.' Both of these projects involved using poetry as a stimulus for dance and Humanite was using poems written by Miss Holmes. Please see some images below of the dance projects.

Strictly Come Dancing at Borlase has become a flagship event for the Dance department. After learning Latin and Ballroom and participating in class heats, the final is performed in the theatre with 15 couples from Year 8. It is an evening not to be missed!
