Dance Careers

Studying dance opens up many career options including choreographer, teacher, performer, artist in residence and dance movement therapist to name just a few. Our students have taken the skills learnt in dance and progressed on to a wide variety of different career paths including teachers, actors, presenters, biologists, and physios. We really like hearing from our past students and what they are up to. We have a number of students who have gone to university to study subjects other than dance and have led dance societies at universities such a Bristol and Exeter.
Studying dance at KS3 and GCSE not only exposes you to the performance and choreographic elements of dance but also through performing in dance shows at school you gain experience in putting on a dance performance such as the demands on lighting, sounds and set design. These are also studied through the GCSE dance syllabus therefore exposing students to careers in theatre other than that of a performer.
If you are considering a career in dance please talk to your dance teacher for guidance and support on apply to dance colleges and university courses. We have had many students pursue careers in dance and we are very fortunate to have professional dancer and chorographer Mx Tucker in the department who can provide support for students auditioning.
