Curriculum statement

Geography enables you better understand the world as it is today. It focuses particularly on the distribution of physical and human features of the world, how those patterns change and the issues that arise as a result. The study of geography develops an awareness of the interrelatedness of human and physical systems, covering topics ranging from urban regeneration and the political geography of superpowers through to plate tectonics and climate change. Geography brings together the sciences and the humanities, e.g. in energy security and the carbon cycle, and it develops a wide range of skills, including the ability to identify spatial patterns and to utilise multi media sources and statistical skills . It helps you to understand connections (particularly between the natural world and human activity) at different scales and to develop synoptic thinking, analysis & evaluation skills, including through fieldwork. Geography is a challenging & thought provoking subject, an exciting discovery of how the world works, a subject that enables an understanding of many of the issues that are of critical relevance in the world today.
