Fry Words
The Fry Sight Word list is based on the most common words to appear in reading materials used in Grades 3-9. Learning all 1,000 words on the Fry list would equip a child to read about 90% of the words in a typical book, newspaper, or website. The goal is to read each of the Fry Words “instantly”, therefore, assuring the automaticity essential to comprehension. Although it is not required for homework, I would strongly suggest students practice these words until they can be read on sight. Learning these words will help to improve fluency and comprehension.
