F.A.Q.'s

Q - Does my teen have to do driver education?

A - Technically no, but in order to get a license in Massachusetts prior to 18, teens must complete the driver education requirements in order to get a license. By doing so, they are also given great instruction and a discount on insurance.

Q - How much does driver education cost at SHS?

A - $725.00 - This covers the cost of the 30 hours of classroom instruction and 12 hours of driving and 6 hours of observation. ($200.00 for the class / $525.00 for the driving and observations.)

Q - How many classes do you run a year?

A - Typically we run 7 or so classes per year. We offer weekends-only courses, as well as weeklong classes over the summer vacation. We typically do not run accelerated classes over school vacation weeks so we can provide more instructional hours in the car or to simply get some time away to rest and relax.

Q - Are non-SHS students welcome?

A - Of course! Since all of our classes are weekends-only or over summer vacation, our program is open to all.

Q - Do your sponsor and/or schedule road tests for students?

A - At this time, we do not. The RMV has a minimum amount of students needed to schedule alternative hour tests and we don't typically meet those minimums.

Q - Are all of your instructors state certified?

A - Yes! The RMV requires all instructors to be extensively trained and then assessed on their knowledge through an exam that all instructors must take and pass with at least 90% accuracy. We also have instructors that are stated certified as teachers and/or have extensive backgrounds in working with teens.

Q - I'm pretty sure I completed the parent night for another student 2( 3, 4, etc.) years ago, do I need to attend again?

A - The parent night is valid for 5 years. If you attended our parent meeting, than we have the documentation. If it was with another driving school, it's still valid, we'll just need the documentation.
