Family Friends Program

Formerly known as Host Family Program...

The Family Friends Program (formerly known as the Host Family Program) is a voluntary opportunity to build community between families of diverse backgrounds by breaking racial, geographical, social, and economic barriers that would otherwise separate them. This produces a cultural exchange that shapes participating families with compassion and cultural humility that intensifies relational prosperity for Boston, Swampscott and Nahant communities.

This level of support gives METCO students a sense of having a home away from home, while also helping parents to be more at ease about the distance between them and their child(ren). Relationships can be formed organically or the committee makes an effort to find an appropriate host family for each student by matching families based on same school grade and same gender. The extensive diversity METCO students bring to Swampscott Public Schools community members exposes and prepares Swampscott students for the diverse world they will experience beyond K-12 education. These interactions expand children's interpersonal and social skills. Resident families and Boston families sign up with the METCO Director on an annual basis to be partners and family friends for one another.
