GOALS:
Increase student independence (build stronger self- advocacy skills).
Utilize proactive thinking and problem solving skills.
Build a stronger understanding of mathematical thinking with real world applications.
EXPECTATIONS:
Try Your Best!
Come to class with a positive attitude! You got this and I am here to always help you! Attempt those problems. Try out the examples. Ask questions. Show your work! Complacency leads to failure.
Be Prepared
Students should try to find a place away from distractions (away from phone, siblings, music, art supplies, reading book, etc.) and bring the following materials to class: a pen, pencil, eraser, and notebook whether we are learning at home or in class. Homework is minimal but meaningful. Try your best to answer all questions assigned and come to class with specific questions.
Be respectful
We are a learning community. We will learn from and by the mistakes of each other but only if we respect our learning community and provide a safe environment to make mistakes and ask questions. The first part of learning takes place through our mistakes.
MATH SITES:
Google Classroom will be main source for math instruction this year. All lessons, materials, and activities can be found there.
HOMEWORK:
Students will correct homework weekly in class to ensure understanding. This is the time for students to ask questions as needed. Homework is never meant to be stressful or overwhelming but rather to reinforce the daily lessons from class. Homework will help check for understanding and is the opportunity for problem solving.
Weekly homework assignments (POW practice and #HW assignments for spiral review) will be found on google classes. POW practice weekly assignment to help reinforce our daily problem of day work to best help reinforce previously learned concepts to help introduce a new concept to support our 6th grade learning. Students will be assigned POW mid-week and will have til Friday to complete/reattempt the work to earn the best classwork grade they can. If a child needs support with this students can seek out support during advisory.
# Homeworks will be given 2 times during the week. This is short assignment purpose is to spiral back to review concepts we have learned in the past while continuing to get the necessary practice on our current concepts we are working to master.
“Extra credit/bonuses” are offered to reward students to practicing their skills even when it is not required. Bonuses will be worth tickets that can help earn extra credit points towards tests/quizzes from the past or present. It is important that students are proactive with their bonuses to help improve their grades when they need. Bonuses will be found in google classroom and paper/pencil copies on the front door of our classroom.
GRADING:
The students will be graded in the following areas in math:
Assessments (Quizzes, Tests, Projects) 60%
Daily Assignments/Notes/Google Classroom/Homework 30%
Self Evaluation 10%
How is Participation/Effort/Behavior Graded?
Students will take part in a self-evaluation each term to rate their own participation, effort, and behavior. During group work and class discussions, students will be evaluated on their participation in the group or with the class.
