WHOLE SCHOOL
WSC
Written by Ms. Cynthia
Last weekend, a group of enthusiastic and driven SWA students proudly took part in the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) 2025 Jakarta Round, held on 3-4 May 2025. Designed for the Early Years and Elementary School division, the event gathered young learners from across Indonesia for a weekend of collaborative learning, academic challenges, and lots of alpaca-themed fun!
Our scholars competed in WSC’s signature events:
Team Debate, where students formed arguments and engaged in thoughtful discussion,
Scholar’s Challenge, a multiple-choice test of depth and instinct,
Collaborative Writing, where creativity and structure merged, and
Scholar’s Bowl, a thrilling team quiz featuring multimedia and rapid-fire questions.
Centred around the 2025 theme, “Reconstructing the Past”, this year’s academic content challenged students to explore the ways societies interpret history, build narratives, and preserve memories across time. From exploring unsolved mysteries to debating the ethics of rebuilding ancient landmarks, students engaged with complex and meaningful ideas.
SWA students shone brightly throughout the competition, displaying exceptional teamwork, curiosity, and resilience. They also participated in community events like the Scavenger Hunt and the Cultural Fair, making new friends and celebrating global diversity.

Over 6,000 students from across Indonesia took part in the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) 2025 Indonesia Preliminary Round, making it one of the most exciting and competitive events of the year. MSHS Teacher Invited to Contribute at IB Chief Examiner Conference in Cardiff, UK
Written by Mr. Haoken
In April 2025, Mr. Ahmad Putera, one of our MSHS teachers, was honoured with an invitation and full accommodation by the International Baccalaureate (IB) to attend the Chief Examiner Conference at the IB Global Centre in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. The event brought together senior IB educators and experts from around the world. Among them was IB General Director Oli-Pekka Heinonen, who delivered keynote presentations on the future direction of the IB.
Mr. Ahmad actively contributed to key discussions during the conference. He shared insights on the evolving use of screen-based examinations, the importance of academic honesty in the age of AI, and the IB’s evolving framework for models of student engagement. His involvement reflects MSHS's growing presence on the global IB stage and highlights the valuable contributions of educators from our school community. This recognition is a proud moment for MSHS and aligns strongly with our school vision: to shape the future as a dynamic learning community that embraces Asia and engages globally.
CARE CORNER
Supporting Language Development at Home
Written by Mr. Danny
Children start learning language before they even go to school. As parents, you can play a big part in helping them develop their language skills. Whether your child speaks one language or more, doing small things every day can really help. Here are some simple suggestions to support your child’s talking and understanding at home:
📚 Read with your child every day
Reading together for just 10–15 minutes helps your child learn new words, listen well, and imagine stories. You don’t need a lot of books—reading the same ones again and again helps children feel confident.
💬 Talk with your child and ask open questions
Use everyday moments—like eating dinner, walking, or shopping—to talk with your child. Ask questions like, “What do you think will happen next?” or “Why do you like that?” These kinds of questions help your child think and talk more.
🎶 Play games and sing songs to learn new words
Fun games like “I Spy”, singing songs, or telling stories can help your child learn words in a happy, relaxed way. Playing with language makes it easier to remember and use.
🌍 Support more than one language
If your family speaks more than one language, keep using them at home! Children learn best when they hear and use all their languages often. It’s okay if your child mixes words from different languages—this is a normal part of learning.
