Every 21st April, Indonesia commemorates Kartini Day to honor Raden Ajeng Kartini, a pioneer of women’s emancipation. She challenged the limitations placed on women in her time and believed that education was the key to equality and freedom. Her legacy reminds us that emancipation is not only about rights, but also about access to knowledge and the courage to think independently.
Kartini’s ideas are preserved in her letters compiled in “Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang” (Out of Darkness Comes Light). Through her writings, she expressed her hopes for a society where women could learn and grow. Despite her restricted life, she embraced literacy as a powerful tool—reading and writing allowed her to explore the world, develop critical thinking, and share her vision beyond physical boundaries.
In a world filled with misinformation, her call to learn is more powerful than ever. Literacy continues to play a vital role in shaping informed and empowered individuals. Keep her flame alive and visit our library and continue the journey from darkness into light. 📚✨
Period: 27 April - 8 May 2026

CARE CORNER
ES Personal and Social Development (PSD) FairÂ
Written by Ms. Lindi
On 10 April 2026, our ES students celebrated the learning of PSD by emphasising “Growing Kindness Together”. Students took the stage not only to perform but to share what they have been learning about empathy, feelings and the impact of their actions. From joyful songs to thoughtful skits and heartfelt presentations, each performance carried a simple but powerful message: Kindness matters.
Students showed how small acts of kindness, through kind words, a helping hand or taking time to understand a friend, can make a meaningful difference. More than the performance and exhibition of their artwork, students wanted to share ideas and invited parents, teachers and their peers to reflect on how kindness can be practised every day.
In a world where children are growing up rapidly and often being exposed to screens, moments like these remind us why empathy and human connection are very important. Kindness is not only something that we teach to our students but also something that we must continue to model and practise together every day.
