ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
Written by Ms. Aleksandra
In ELA classes, learning extends far beyond textbooks and classrooms. Grades 7, 8, and 9 students have embraced a range of exciting, hands-on projects that not only spark creativity but also nurture essential Approaches to Learning skills - thinking, research, self-management, communication, and social skills. They have learned how to reflect on the process and outcomes of their work and the IB Learner Profile attributes they showcased in those learning processes.
Across these projects, our students have not only explored meaningful content but also developed lifelong skills and values. The project activities strengthened their creative thinking and ability to plan and organise, while also encouraging them to be risk-takers, trying new techniques and bold ideas. They are learning to be balanced, inquirers, and most importantly, learners who care about their work, their peers, and the world around them.
As their teachers, we are proud to guide and witness this growth. With each term, our students continue to inspire us with their resilience, creativity, and commitment to learning.
Working Effectively
Grade 7 contributed to the class activities with their creativity in window painting, helping illustrate the topic of Life Below Water. They also explored Financial Literacy and presented about budgeting, earning, saving, spending, and investing, broadening their vocabulary and perspectives of the world around them.
Debates and Storytelling: Voices That Matter
In Grade 8, public speaking came alive through spirited classroom debates and storytelling performances using light to project images. Students discussed timely and relevant topics while learning to listen actively and respond thoughtfully. These activities nurtured social skills, empathy, and confidence, with students embodying the traits of being open-minded, caring, and communicators.
Using Language to Gather and Communicate Information
Grade 8 developed their collaboration, research, time-management, and presentation skills and elaborated on the importance of focus, reading, creativity, and literacy. They talked about how handwriting changes our brains and enhances learning and how speaking more than one language boosts our brains. They expressed their sense of humor by comparing reading physical and digital books. They encouraged their peers to be creative and mentioned that creativity isn’t limited to art, writing, or music. They reminded us that we can find creativity in the classroom, when students connect ideas in a new way, present a project with a fresh perspective or when they decorate their classroom and design posters. They showcased how creativity shines through in teamwork, when they build on each other’s ideas to create something greater together.

Making Math Meaningful: The Power of Hands-On Activities in Grade 6
In Additional Mathematics class for our Grade 6 students, hands-on activities play a crucial role in making mathematics engaging and understandable. At this developmental stage, students benefit from interactive, tactile experiences that help bridge the gap between concrete and abstract thinking.
Using tools like Tangram Geometry Building and Tarsia Puzzles, teachers can promote spatial reasoning, problem-solving, and collaboration.
For Geometry chapters, students learn the chapter using tangram shapes. Tangrams encourage students to explore shapes, symmetry, and transformations through creative play with geometric pieces. At the same time, they will have a better understanding of the concept area, perimeter, surface area, and volume of solids.
Meanwhile, Tarsia puzzles challenge students to match equivalent mathematical expressions or concepts, reinforcing key topics such as fractions, algebra, and operations.
These activities cater to different learning styles, boost motivation, and support deeper conceptual understanding. More than just games, they foster critical thinking and communication skills in a collaborative classroom environment. By actively participating in hands-on activities, students benefit by gaining meaningful and memorable learning experiences.
UGC
UNIVERSITY ACCEPTANCES
We wish to congratulate all of our students on their acceptances so far and wish them all the best as they continue to apply to other universities. Acceptances to some universities in other countries may be received as late as July. This acceptance list will be updated as they come in.
