First LEGO League Philippines 2024
Written by Mr. Haoken
It was a day of accomplishment for the SWA Rocks and SWA RoboKnights teams at the esteemed First Lego League (FLL) competition held in Subic Bay, Philippines, on the 17th of February. Displaying remarkable expertise, SWA Rocks was awarded the Inquiring Mind Award, while the SWA RoboKnights received the Innovative Project Award, both reflecting the teams' dedication and high-caliber performance. Cosmos Codex together with SWA RoboKnights also received the Finalist medals.
The FLL's mission is to foster an interest in STEM among children through interactive and practical experiences. It's a global initiative that encourages young minds to develop their abilities in critical thinking, coding, and design through its three distinct divisions. This year's theme, "Masterpiece," challenged participants to creatively intertwine the essence of art with the realm of STEM communication. The triumph of the SWA teams at the FLL Subic Bay FLL tournaments celebrates the interdisciplinary approach that our school advocates — blending the analytical rigor of STEM with the creative dynamics of the arts. Their presentations underscored the belief that integrating these disciplines can significantly enrich the educational landscape, making learning more engaging and accessible. The teams’ ability to convey complex concepts through an interdisciplinary lens not only won them awards but also set a benchmark for how educational content can be delivered in compelling and innovative ways.
As we applaud SWA Rocks and SWA RoboKnights for their impressive achievements, we also recognise the hard work of all the mentors, parents, and staff who supported our teams. Together, we are forging a path for innovative education, proving that learning can be as fun as it is informative and transformative. Congratulations to the SWA Rocks, Cosmo Codex, and SWA RoboKnights for their achievements.

Personal Project Exhibition
Written by Mr. Haoken
The Personal Project Exhibition, marking the climax of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for the 2023-2024 academic year, was held with great success on Friday, 23 February 2024, from 8:00 AM to 12:10 PM at the Arts Building. This event stood out as a profound celebration of the creativity, dedication, and remarkable journey undertaken by our Grade 10 students.
This year's theme, "Embracing Innovation, Inspiring Action", set the stage for our students to explore areas of personal interest deeply, while also sharpening their approaches to learning (ATL) skills. The exhibition showcased a wide array of projects that not only demonstrated the students' accumulated knowledge and skills but also their commitment to instigating positive change. The Personal Project is recognized as the apex of the MYP, offering students a unique opportunity to delve into subjects they are passionate about, thereby fostering a sense of ownership and pride in their work. This year's projects were particularly impressive, reflecting in-depth inquiries into various topics and embodying the spirit of innovation and action.
The event was more than just a display of academic achievements; it was a reflection of the resilience, growth, and thorough preparation our students have invested in readiness for future challenges. It provided a platform for the community to come together in support and celebration of these young achievers' hard work and accomplishments.
Enterprise Exhibition
Written by Ms. Renu
Grade 9 enterprise students recently participated in a unique sales opportunity as part of their coursework requirements. Organised by the students themselves, this one-off sales event was a key component of their involvement in youth enterprise development. The experience not only provided a platform for students to showcase their products but also served as a valuable learning opportunity.
In addition to gaining practical experience in selling, the event allowed students to develop their ideas and skills in entrepreneurship. It encouraged them to take calculated risks, be innovative and creative in their approach, and demonstrate a positive and proactive attitude towards challenges.
Overall, the experience was not just about selling products but about fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among the students. It encouraged them to think critically, adapt to changing circumstances, and collaborate effectively with their peers. Such experiences are invaluable in preparing students for future endeavours in the world of business and entrepreneurship.

SWA Literacy Programme
Your partner in building a strong foundation in English literacy skills is here. Join the SWA Literacy Programme! The SWA Literacy Programme features JOLLY PHONICS for ages 3-6. It is a comprehensive programme that employs a child-centred and multisensory approach to teaching the 42 sounds of the alphabet, which motivates children to build words as early as possible.
The programme is also offered to Elementary School students aged 7-11 years old. In this programme, literacy skills, (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), are further developed through exposure to stories of various genres. The language exercises are combined with activities that focus on comprehension skills (eg. summarising, inferencing, comparing and contrasting) that they can apply to all reading situations.
