Infant Literacy
Written by Ms. Ann
A warm welcome to the quadruplets!
The youngest members of SWA, the infant class, have taken their first steps onto the school stage. These babies have proven themselves to be more than ready for school. Witnessing their engagement in activities fills us with immense happiness and excitement. Their eyes are glued to everything they see, undeterred by the various textures they encounter – whether wet, sticky, or slimy.
Over the past few weeks, they have been introduced to vocabulary words focusing on their body parts, such as ear, nose, tongue, and skin. The babies have also explored different musical instruments and listened attentively to the story, "I am the Music Man." Their curiosity extended to tasting various foods, from the sourness of lemon to the sweetness of orange and apple, all of which they enjoyed. They were also delighted to experience different scents.
Their sense of touch prompted exploration of their hands, feeling objects that are hot, cold, smooth, rough, and hard. The sparkle in their eyes, their smiles, and their gestures of enjoyment confirm that they are learning while thoroughly enjoying the activities prepared for them.
Nursery Understanding the World

We are excited to share the wonderful times our little ones had in our Understanding the World lessons. We focused on farm animals and their movements, exploring this theme through engaging activities such as singing songs about farm animals, reading captivating storybooks, pretending to be farm animals and mimicking their movements. They had fun constructing barns and exploring the textures and sounds of farm animals through sensory bins. We're proud of the enthusiasm and curiosity our children showed during our farm animal adventures. They've been learning so much while having a great time!
We look forward to continuing our exploration of the world around us in the coming weeks.

K1 Music
Written by Ms. Melissa
In the lively realm of kindergarten, the music class transforms into a dynamic space where young minds and bodies thrive in the enchanting fusion of rhythm and movement. Through interactive songs, students embark on a delightful journey that nurtures creativity, coordination, and a passion for music. A standout feature is the incorporation of the cup song into the traditional folk tune, "Tideo." Holding cups, students synchronise movements with the beat, creating a captivating visual and auditory spectacle. This not only hones musical skills but also develops fine motor skills. Another engaging segment involves the song "Seven Jumps," where children enhance listening skills by associating specific movements with musical cues. This activity fosters active listening, spatial awareness, and the joy of following instructions while having fun. The music class offers a vibrant and holistic experience that leaves a lasting impression on these budding young learners.

Written by Mr. Biqin
In our K2 class, children immerse themselves in the joy of learning Chinese, experiencing the unique charm of traditional culture. We not only emphasise oral training but also focus on cultivating children's listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities. Children learn basic strokes and commonly used radicals, effortlessly mastering related Chinese characters. They not only understand the structure of Chinese characters but can also write simple ones, showcasing the beauty of their Chinese writing.
Culture serves as the carrier of language. Apart from language learning, we also immerse children in the cultural atmosphere. As the Spring Festival approaches, children explore the origin of the lunar New Year and feel the festive atmosphere. They listen to stories, learn about the legends of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs, and celebrate the Spring Festival by singing and dancing with their friends.
We not only learn Chinese but also appreciate the profoundness of Chinese culture. Keep it up, children! Let us use language as a bridge for communication, accompanying happiness and wisdom together!
Grade 1 English
Written by Mr. Marc
Students are focused, assertive, and thriving in Grade 1 English Language Class.
Along with our weekly Oxford International English Student Book Lessons, our spelling focus, and our grammar investigations, the Grade 1 students are also developing their speaking and presenting skills.
When Grade 1 has a double period, students get a Brain Break. We used to go to the playground for 8 minutes, but students must first recite a verse of a poem in front of their classmates in order to “earn” access to the playground. Students’ speaking skills, presenting skills, and confidence are growing exponentially. Also, students seem to enjoy the challenge, the break from the classroom environment and the great heights of the new playground.
Well done, Grade 1 English! Keep on soaring!
Grade 2 Science
Written by Ms. Shirley
In our recent science lesson, we embarked on the exciting journey to explore the fascinating world of forces. Our exploration began with a simple yet insightful activity: identifying forces at play in various pictures. The Grade 2 students eagerly pointed out examples of pushes and pulls, showcasing their budding understanding of these fundamental concepts of forces.
Next, we delved into the heart of our lesson by creating their own marble mazes. This hands-on activity allowed the students to understand how forces can influence the motion of an object. As marbles rolled through the mazes, the students observed how the different surfaces and angles affected the speed and direction of the marble.
As the highlight of our lesson, we undertook an exciting investigation to determine the best materials for an “ice-skating” game. The students enthusiastically tested different materials to determine which offered the least amount of friction.

Grade 5 Music
Written by Mr. Freddy
Our Grade 5 students have embarked on a journey of cross-cultural music learning, exploring the various types of festival music from around the world. We believe that it’s very important to develop students' understanding and appreciation of different cultures in a fun way through music in this interconnected world. One of the highlights from their musical odyssey this term is the exploration of Chinese festival music. It is linked to the Chinese Spring Festival performance as our collaborative project with Chinese subjects. Through this project, students will develop music skills and Chinese language skills by combining acting, singing, and playing instruments. They will also perform angklung (an Indonesian traditional instrument) to accompany their juniors on stage to perform a Chinese New Year song about firecrackers. It shows their appreciation of diversity and cross-cultural music. The experience will help them reflect and gain a deeper understanding of music as a universal language that is not limited to boundaries and transcends culture or nationality.
They have learned several instruments in class, they practised hulusi, ukulele, and angklung as we watched their performance at some of our school’s events. This term, they also learned and presented how to classify musical instruments using the Sach Hornbostel system into aerophone, chordophone, membranophone, and idiophone, comparing it with the orchestra instruments classification system as their prior knowledge. They practised to develop creative thinking skills by writing some lines of composition for hulusi instruments using flat.io on treble staves and they demonstrated it with their hulusi instrument in front of the class as their assessment.
