Grade 12 Mock Exams: Preparation & Well-Being
The IB DP2 Mock Exams will take place from 25 February to 7 March 2025, marking an important stage in our students’ academic journey. These exams serve as a simulation of the final IB Exams in May 2025, allowing students to practice exam conditions, refine their time management skills, and identify areas for further improvement.
To ensure students can focus on reviewing effectively, the revision period from 19-24 February 2025 will be dedicated to preparation, with no summative assessments scheduled. This provides students with the time and space to revisit challenging concepts, clarify doubts with teachers, and engage in structured revision strategies.
While academic success is important, maintaining well-being during this period is equally crucial. We encourage students to find a balance between focused study and self-care - getting enough rest, eating well, and taking mindful breaks to stay refreshed. Teachers and School Counselors are available to provide support and guidance, ensuring that students feel confident and motivated throughout this process.
Best of luck to our DP2 students - stay focused, stay balanced, and give it your best!

Growing Together: EAL Students Embrace Learning with Confidence
The English Additional Language (EAL) students have shown steady progress as they come together with their classmates, united by a shared enthusiasm for learning. While they still need to catch up to the expected English level, their growing confidence in speaking, expanding vocabulary, and improving writing skills reflect their dedication and determination.
A key factor in their progress is the spirit of collaboration, where students support and uplift one another. Encouragement from classmates has created a welcoming and inclusive environment, making everyone feel valued and motivated to improve. This sense of belonging fosters respect for different learning journeys, ensuring that each student's growth is acknowledged and appreciated.
As they strive for self-improvement, the EAL students have learned to take ownership of their learning. Their small achievements fuel their confidence, proving that every step forward, no matter how small, is a victory worth celebrating. Their perseverance and determination are met with appreciation, reinforcing their belief in their own potential.
Above all, the learning environment is rooted in love—a love for learning, for growth, and for supporting one another. With this strong foundation, the EAL students continue to thrive, inspired by their classmates and guided by the school values that make their learning journey meaningful.

Recently, Grade 11 CLL students have been engrossed in studying The Book of Songs, China's first poetry collection. To share insights, an oral presentation activity was held.
During the event, the student covered multiple aspects. They introduced its basic facts: 305 poems from the Western Zhou to the Spring and Autumn Period, divided into Feng, Ya, and Song. In terms of ideological content, the poems mirror various aspects of ancient society, from folks' daily life to court affairs.
Artistically, The Book of Songs uses Fu, Bi, and Xing, which enriches the expressions. Its literary status is unshakable as the origin of Chinese realistic literature. It also significantly impacts later literary works, inspiring poets with its themes and techniques.
This activity not only deepened the student' understanding of The Book of Songs but also improved the communication skills. It was truly a rewarding exploration of Chinese literary heritage.
INDONESIAN DEPARTMENT
Written by Ms. Yulia Arza
This time, the Grade 7 Indonesian language and literature class is studying the topic of procedural texts. This topic is very interesting because students are not only learning to write procedural texts with grammar appropriate to their type, but they also have to write procedural texts based on a topic of their choice, such as making a boat from used plastic bottles, a tissue box from a used box, decorating greeting cards, making a mask from paper, creating a puzzle, and many more.
They must also be able to present their procedural texts orally in front of their classmates and teacher, of course, after writing a proper text. The students are very enthusiastic about this project, which serves as the summative assignment for this lesson, and they are learning many things, such as writing in a style appropriate to the text type, speaking and presenting their topic in front of an audience, and trying to persuade their audience to take an interest in the activity they are presenting.
With this, the learning objectives of this topic can be considered successfully achieved.

Grade 9 Economics: Exploring Market Structures Through Monopoly!
This week, our Grade 9 Economics students delved into the fascinating world of market structures, focusing on monopolies. Through engaging discussions and case studies, they explored how monopolies operate, their advantages and disadvantages, and their impact on consumers and the economy.
To bring these concepts to life, students enjoyed a fun and interactive session playing the Monopoly board game! As they navigated buying, trading, and managing properties, they gained firsthand experience of market dominance, pricing power, and strategic decision-making—key characteristics of real-world monopolies. The activity sparked lively discussions on real-life monopolies such as tech giants, utilities, and transportation sectors, deepening their understanding of economics in action. Learning through play proved to be an exciting and enriching way to connect theory with practice! 🎲💡
MUSIC
Written by Mr. Freddy
This term, our Grade 6 Music students had the honor to open the MSHS Chinese New Year Celebration with a stunning Hulusi Ensemble performance of "Little Poem." Their heartfelt melody, enriched by the traditional Hulusi sound ornament of China, set the perfect tone for the celebration. The ensemble, beautifully dressed in Han Dynasty costumes, collaborated with Grade 8 dancers, creating a mesmerising and immersive cultural experience.
Adding to the musical brilliance, the Hulusi ensemble was complemented by violin, guzheng, and xylophone, all performed by our talented Grade 6 musicians. The performance seamlessly blended traditional Chinese elements with instrumental diversity, showcasing the depth of their musical skills.
Following this, the Strings Club took the stage with a heartfelt rendition of "Dandelion’s Promise" featuring Andrew, Darrell, Zhao Ren, and Shao Jie, who sang and played the piano accompaniment. The spotlight then shifted to Grace from Grade 7, who delivered a stunning solo performance of "Peach Blossom Smile" with confidence and elegance. This was followed by Harry from Grade 8, who performed a Korean traditional song, adding a special tribute to Korean Day, which was celebrated close to the Chinese New Year.
One of the most special moments of the event was the breathtaking performance by Ms. Cecilia, one of our talented SWA parents. She presented the "Song of Yue People," a beautiful Chinese folk song, with authentic artistry and an incredible vocal performance. The celebration concluded with a high-energy performance by Equinox Band from Grade 9, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.
Thank you to the Chinese Department for organising this meaningful event and for providing our MYP Music students with the opportunity to showcase their talents. Through these performances, our students not only shared the joy and cultural values of the Chinese New Year but also gained confidence, experience, and artistic growth. These moments help them develop stronger musicianship, stage presence, and discipline, taking their learning in music and performing arts to the next level.
VISUAL ARTS
Written by Ms. Jeanie
Grade 9 Visual Art students are learning about drawing landscapes from primary sources and experimenting with acrylic paint. They started by using soft pastels to create a composition based on a view outside the window of the art room then spent time drawing the landscape from the front step area of the DT building. Students simplified their compositional idea, added texture paste then completed the experiment with acrylic paint using expressive colours.
