Pre-K Field Trip to Pos Damkar BSD Tangerang
Written by Ms. Pingkan and Ms. April
Our Pre-K students had an exciting and memorable field trip to Pos Damkar BSD Tangerang. With happy smiles and great enthusiasm, the children boarded the bus, eagerly looking forward to meeting real firefighters and seeing a fire station up close.
Upon arrival, the firefighters welcomed us warmly. They explained and demonstrated the different tools used to put out fires, allowing the students to observe and learn through hands-on interaction. The children were invited to identify the tools, and those who could were given the chance to wear firefighter costumes. Everyone had a turn to try on the outfits and proudly posed for photos.
One of the highlights of the trip was riding on a real fire truck around the area. The students were overjoyed and amazed by the experience. Afterward, they put on their raincoats and sandals in preparation for water play. The firefighters turned on the water hose, and the children splashed, laughed, and joyfully played in the puddles.
When asked if they would like to visit again, the answer was a cheerful “yes!” Though a little tired, the students returned home with happy hearts and wonderful memories from a truly unforgettable day.

Learning About Day and Night
The toddler class enjoyed exploring the concept of day and night through hands-on and sensory-rich experiences. The children identified the colour of the sky during the day and at night, recognising blue skies in the daytime and black skies at night. Together, they discussed and identified familiar things seen in the sky, such as the sun and clouds during the day, and the moon and stars at night.
To extend their learning, the children took part in a sensory activity where they created their own day and night skies. Using spray bottles, they sprayed blue and black coloured water onto oats, engaging their senses as they used their hands to spray, touch, and explore the materials. The children observed closely as the colours spread and changed, supporting their understanding of colour recognition, cause and effect, and fine motor development.

Our Nursery class has joyfully begun Semester 2 by diving into the world of numbers through playful and hands-on learning experiences. As the children explore different numbers, they practise one-to-one correspondence by carefully counting and matching each object to a number, helping them understand that numbers represent quantity.
To build confidence with number order, the children engage in rote counting activities that include jumping, clapping, and moving their bodies as they count aloud together. They also enjoy matching identical numerals and searching around the classroom for objects that can represent specific numbers, turning number learning into an exciting discovery.
Hand and footprint activities provide yet another fun opportunity for counting, allowing the children to use their bodies as part of the learning process. Through movement, exploration, and hands-on experiences, the children are building early numeracy skills in an active and joyful way, setting the stage for confident and happy mathematical learning ahead.

Our Pre-K children have been exploring living and nonliving things as part of their Understanding the World learning. Through hands-on experiences, storytelling, and outdoor exploration, they are discovering how everything around us has a special place.
The children learnt that living things grow and change. We talked about grass in the garden, shared a story about goats that eat grass, and discussed how animals and plants need care to survive. During garden time and also in the classroom, the children carefully observed a small plant growing. They noticed its tiny leaves and talked about how it changes each day, building important observation and thinking skills.
We also explored nonliving things, such as rocks, soil, and items around our school, including our bags, computers, and playground. The children compared what is living and nonliving, learning that some things move, like water in a small river and cars, even though they are not alive.
Through group discussions, nature walks, and shared experiences, our Pre-K friends are learning to look closely, ask questions, and describe what they see. They are developing care and respect for nature, their environment, and one another as they continue to explore our amazing world. 🌍💚

This term in our K1 PE class, we had a fun time learning how to toss and catch a ball while also practising taking turns. I joined the students during the activities, guiding them step by step and cheering them on as they tried new movements. The children learnt to focus, use their hands carefully, and watch their friends while waiting for their turn. There were many smiles, small successes, and moments of excitement when a catch was made. Through these simple games, the students also practised patience, sharing, and following instructions. Overall, it was a joyful and active learning experience that helped build both movement skills and positive classroom habits.

The Kindergarten 2 students welcomed the New Year with a creative New Year glasses craft during our first week back at school. This fun activity helped the children celebrate a fresh start and feel excited to return to learning.
The K2s shared and wrote about their favourite holiday moments as an introduction to a recount, which means telling or writing about something that already happened. They shared wonderful stories about watching fireworks, visiting Disneyland and meeting Elsa, going to the ocean and seeing manta rays, staying in hotels, and spending time with their families.
They also learnt an important new word – dictionary. They discovered that a dictionary helps us find and learn new words. They created their own mini dictionaries and went on a word hunt around the school to find new vocabulary to add.
It has been a happy and meaningful start to the term!

Showing kindness to others is another way to build good relationships. At the start of the new semester, Personal and Social Development (PSD) focuses on building relationship skills and social awareness, and learning about kindness is one of the most important skills that children need to develop.
This week, Grade 1 students learn “The Power of Kind Acts” by discussing ways they can do to show kindness and how they would feel when they could say or do something kind or when others showed kindness to them. Students demonstrated their knowledge of kindness by giving examples, such as helping or being friendly to others. To help the students understand kindness, they created a poster of kindness.

This week, Grade 2 students explored the concepts of length, measurement, and estimation through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Students learnt about different measuring tools, including rulers, metre sticks, and trundle wheels. During our sessions, we had meaningful conversations about when each tool is most suitable, helping students understand why some tools work better for measuring small objects while others are more effective for larger spaces.
In the classroom, students estimated the length of everyday objects and then compared their estimates with the actual measurements. This activity encouraged careful thinking, improved accuracy, and helped students build confidence in measuring.
A highlight of the week was a hands-on activity where students used a trundle wheel to measure the distance from one end of the Koi Piazza to the other. After finding the distance in metres, students converted the measurement into centimetres. Some students used a metre stick to support their thinking and discovered that 1 metre is equal to 100 centimetres. Overall, students showed enthusiasm, curiosity, and growing confidence in applying their mathematical learning to real-life situations.

This week in art, Grade 5 students were introduced to the contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Students learnt about her life story, explored examples of her famous artworks, and discussed her unique art style, especially her use of bold colours, repeated patterns, and dots.
After learning about Kusama’s artistic approach, students conducted simple research and shared ideas through class discussion. They then began planning their own artworks by creating sketches on paper inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s style. These sketches will be used as a guide before transferring their designs onto canvas in the following lessons.
This process helps students understand how artists plan their work and encourages creativity, research skills, and thoughtful art-making.
