Toddler Understanding the World
Written by Ms. Ann
In our bustling toddler class, the enchantment of music and nursery rhymes has woven a magical experience for our young learners. The theme "Music and Me" sparked an irresistible fascination, drawing them into the captivating world of nursery rhymes, blending fun and learning seamlessly. As they joyfully mimicked the antics of "Five Little Monkeys" and embarked on imaginative journeys with "The Wheels on the Bus," their enthusiasm bubbled over, igniting a vibrant energy that echoed through our classroom.
Each rhyme opened doors to emotions and skills, from empathising with Humpty Dumpty's fall to synchronised movements in "Hickory Dickory Dock." The children reconstructed Humpty Dumpty using a puzzle and gently bandaged his head to provide comfort, showcasing empathy. Their knack for completing missing words highlighted budding language skills and a passion for learning and expression during each recital.
This harmonious blend of music and nursery rhymes isn't just entertainment; it's a platform for holistic growth. Through these playful encounters, our toddlers immerse themselves in melodies while nurturing empathy, linguistic proficiency, and motor skills.
Nursery Literacy
Written by Ms. Ruby
In our Nursery class, the past weeks have been filled with joy and learning. We dove into a world of stories, each tailored to the letters we explored. Our little ones delighted in the magic of Jolly Phonics songs, expanding their language skills in delightful harmony.
Sensory activities became a daily adventure as the children explored playdough, foam, paints, and a myriad of exciting materials. Their laughter echoed through the classrooms as they immersed themselves in these hands-on experiences, each touch and texture sparking curiosity.
The true measure of success, however, is the radiant smiles on our children's faces. Witnessing their joy and accomplishments during these activities fills our hearts with warmth and confirms the magic that happens in our nursery class every day.
PreK Mathematics
Written by Ms. Joy and Ms. Jill
In our exciting Pre-K classroom, the journey to learning numbers is a joyful and continuous adventure. Getting to know each number in a fun way involves putting together puzzles, exploring playdough, colouring, tracing, and counting small objects, which are also helpful for the children’s fine motor skills. We also learned numbers 1-10 through songs, dance, and movement that the kids enjoyed every day, both in and out of the classroom. Collaborative games promote teamwork as the children work together to arrange numbers and practise one-to-one correspondence.
Additionally, they followed the verbal paths for each number to enhance recall and mastery. These playful activities, the laughter, discoveries, and creative expressions made learning numbers in Pre-K an enchanting experience, setting the stage for a lifelong love of maths.
“Children learn as they play. Most importantly in play children learn how to learn.”

Grade 1 ICT
Written by Mr. Aldrin
In classrooms around the world, the hum of curiosity and the glow of computer screens signal a groundbreaking initiative: introducing grade 1 pupils to the world of coding through Scratch. Scratch offers a visually engaging platform where children can learn coding principles without the complexities of traditional programming languages. The drag-and-drop interface of Scratch transforms abstract coding concepts into colourful building blocks, making it an ideal starting point for young minds eager to explore the realms of technology.
The magic of Scratch lies in its ability to seamlessly blend learning with play. Grade 1 pupils, armed with creativity and enthusiasm, embark on a journey of interactive storytelling, animated adventures, and game creation. As they manipulate code blocks to bring characters to life or design their own virtual worlds, these young coders not only develop foundational coding skills but also cultivate problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and collaboration. Beyond the confines of the classroom, Scratch introduces coding as a language of empowerment, shaping the digital landscape for these pupils and preparing them for a future where technological fluency is as essential as reading and writing. Grade 2 Arts
Written by Mr. Ezard
Grade 2 students are embarking on a fascinating journey into the world of art, discovering the concept of unity through Kandinsky's concentric circle project. Inspired by the famous artist Wassily Kandinsky, the young artists are learning to harmonise colours and shapes, creating visually striking compositions. As they layer concentric circles in vibrant hues, they explore the interplay between colours and how unity can be achieved through carefully balanced design. This project not only nurtures their artistic talents but also instils a deeper appreciation for the principles of unity in the art world, setting the stage for a lifetime of creative exploration.
The Grade 2 students enthusiastically embraced Kandinsky's concentric circle project, marvelling at the vibrant fusion of colours and shapes. Their responses echoed a sense of wonder as they discovered the beauty of unity in art, expressing delight in the unique and harmonious patterns they created. Through this experience, the young artists discovered the power of individual creativity.
Grade 3 Field Trip
Written by Mr. Dominic
Last 13 November, the grade 3 students went on a field trip to Madu Pramuka. They studied the different types of bees that produce quality and tasty honey. The product used 2 types of bees: the bees that came from Europe, which produce the sweetness of the honey, and the local bees from which the majority of the honey comes. Another interesting fact about these bees is that the bees that come from Europe are less dangerous than those from Indonesia. Once the Indonesian bees sting a person, their stinger releases a pheromone that attracts the other bees to signal that the person that it stung is a threat to the hive and all the other bees will attack that person. While the European one rarely attacks a bystander around.
The kids enjoyed taking a tour around the farm and getting a firsthand experience of how the honey is made. They got to interact with the bees wearing protective gear and get a taste of pure honey straight out of the hive.
It was a wonderful experience for the kids!
Grade 4 Mathematics
Written by Mr. Christian
In recent weeks, G4 maths lessons have become a captivating adventure, seamlessly weaving together cardinal directions, shapes and rectangles, map making, and symmetric wonders.
Shapes and rectangles took centre stage in a maths exploration activity. From drawing and identifying basic shapes to walking around school measuring sides of squares and rectangles. The students brought geometric concepts to life, fostering a deeper understanding of mathematical principles. To add a creative twist, an engaging activity included designing their ideal bedrooms using squares and rectangles. This hands-on experience not only reinforced their understanding of geometric shapes but also allowed students to apply mathematical concepts to a personal and imaginative project.
Map-making became a thrilling endeavour, transforming the classroom into a cartographer's workshop. The students sketched maps of their own model city, incorporating cardinal directions and various shapes to represent landmarks. Also, they went out and took photos of different places in school and plotted them on a grid map. This project not only enhanced their map-reading skills but also ignited their imaginations, as they envisioned their own unique worlds.
One of the highlights of the maths lessons was the exploration of symmetric shapes. The students eagerly discovered the beauty of symmetry in nature, art, and everyday objects. They uncovered symmetrical wonders within the classroom and created a visual feast of paper cutouts of symmetric figures.
It's truly heartening to see students embrace maths with enthusiasm. By incorporating hands-on activities, SWA aims to make learning not just informative but also enjoyable. The connections made between classroom lessons and the world around them will inspire learning.
