Written by Mr. Haoken
Sinarmas World Academy (SWA) proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of SWA Ocean Voyager, who secured First Place in the Future Innovator Junior category at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) International Finals 2024 in Izmir, Turkiye. Competing against 560 teams from over 80 countries, the talented team of Zhenxuan (Grade 9), Ruoyi (Grade 8), and Samarth (Grade 9) showcased their ingenuity and commitment to solving global environmental challenges with their innovative project, "The Ocean Voyager."
"The Ocean Voyager" is a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) designed to advance coral reef restoration efforts. The robot minimizes the need for human presence underwater, enhancing both safety and efficiency in marine conservation activities. Equipped with advanced real-time camera technology, the ROV can document underwater ecosystems, monitor coral growth, and detect anomalies, offering sustainable solutions for protecting and restoring marine biodiversity. This innovation reflects SWA's emphasis on developing projects with meaningful, real-world impact, especially in addressing urgent environmental challenges.
"The Ocean Voyager" embodies the IB Learner Profile by fostering skills such as inquiry, collaboration, and reflection, while also instilling a strong sense of responsibility toward the environment. Through its focus on interdisciplinary learning and commitment to sustainability, SWA provides a nurturing environment where students can transform ideas into impactful solutions.
Congratulations to SWA teams for their exceptional achievement and their dedication to creating solutions that protect our planet and inspire change worldwide!

Honorable Awards in the 2024 Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest
We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievement of our two Grade 9 (MYP4) groups whose submissions earned Honorable Mention Awards in the Music and Performing Arts Category of the 2024 Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest. Their outstanding song compositions stood out from over 5,200 entries from youth worldwide, as judged by a panel of 80 professional judges from different countries. The results, announced in November 2024, highlight the students’ creativity and commitment to environmental advocacy.
The first group, consisting of Carlos, Nathan, Samarth, Kate, Bridget, Chloe, Zuriel, Adriana, and Richard, composed “William’s Last Wish”, a heartfelt song about the tragic fate of a whale due to seawater acidification.
The second group, with members Qiara, Liam, William, Jay, Joy, and Oliver, composed “Dance of Demise”, reflecting their deep concern for the climate crisis.
Both songs, originally developed as part of their MYP3 Music summative project in May-June 2024, aimed to implement international mindedness and raise awareness about global issues, emphasizing the IB values of being impactful contributors to a better world.
As Honorable Mention winners, each group received USD 100 cash, and their songs will be showcased in the Bow Seat's Ocean Advocacy Art Gallery, amplifying their voices in environmental advocacy. We are incredibly proud of our students for using their talents to inspire action and highlight critical global issues. Their success demonstrates the powerful role young people can play in shaping a sustainable future.
Bow Seat’s annual contest, now in its 14th year, is the world’s largest youth environmental program for the creative arts. It allows students to explore, express, and advocate for conservation issues creatively. Since its inception, the contest has engaged more than 38,000 middle and high schoolers from all 50 U.S. states and over 140 countries, awarding over USD 780,000 to support teens' creative talents and passion for the environment.

Simple Activities to Strengthen Parent-Child Bonds
Written by Ms. Lecya
Parenting in a busy world often means juggling multiple responsibilities, leaving little time for bonding with our children. However, even small, intentional moments can create meaningful connections. One effective way is through play, which allows parents to step into their child’s world and understand how they interact with their environment. These shared moments nurture deeper emotional connections and help build trust. Here are three simple, yet impactful activities to try:
1) Sensory Play with Body Lotion
Sit face-to-face with your child and have a bottle of body lotion handy.
Take a small amount of lotion, and as you apply it, place a dot on specific parts of their body—like a birthmark or their hand. Offer a compliment or express affection with each dot (e.g., “This hand is so helpful!”).
Smooth the lotion evenly with gentle strokes. Depending on their age, encourage your child to do the same for you.
The cool sensation of lotion combined with a soothing touch not only helps calm nerves but also strengthens your emotional connection. This activity fosters relaxation, setting the stage for a peaceful night’s sleep.
Ask your child to close their eyes while you hide a cotton ball on your body—slipping it under your shirt, in a pocket, or even in your hand.
Give them a minute to find it, exploring and searching as they giggle with excitement.
Switch roles, letting them hide the cotton ball for you to find.
This playful activity invites laughter, touch, and eye contact, all of which are essential for bonding. Plus, it encourages curiosity and teamwork.
Sit on the floor facing your child, holding their hands.
Sing “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” together while gently rocking back and forth in unison.
Adjust the tempo and add fun lyrics to make it more exciting as your child grows older.
This activity combines physical closeness, rhythmic movement, and shared laughter. It not only strengthens your bond but also promotes coordination and musical appreciation.
Each of these activities emphasizes physical touch, eye contact, and communication, which are the foundation of a strong parent-child relationship. By carving out just a few moments each day for playful interactions, you create lasting memories and build a secure, loving environment for your child to thrive. Start small, stay consistent, and enjoy the journey of connecting with your little one!

HEALTH AND SAFETY UPDATE
It is a standard procedure at SWA to conduct whole-school general cleaning every weekend. However, we would like to update you on the additional measures implemented, particularly during sensitive periods such as flu season. Deep cleaning operations are currently a top priority, and we extend our gratitude to our cleaning services team and SWA staff for their dedicated efforts and vigilant monitoring of all buildings, ensuring our school remains a safe and hygienic environment.
Cleanliness is more than just the absence of dirt; it reflects the habits of those who use the space. Let us each do our part by respecting our surroundings and practising personal hygiene wherever we are. Wearing masks is encouraged to protect both yourself and others, and it is essential to prioritise proper handwashing at all times for everyone’s safety.
