EARLY YEARS
Infant - Understanding the World
Written by Ms. Mary Ann
This term, the infants enthusiastically explored the theme of "Rays of Light and Sounds", engaging in sensory-rich activities that sparked their curiosity and understanding of the world.
They had an incredible experience practising their visual tracking skills by following bright lights and moving objects, enhancing their focus and visual coordination. They also began to recognise and differentiate between various colours of light and objects, fostering early colour identification skills.
The infants explored textures, shapes, and materials that interact with light, encouraging sensory development and curiosity. They discovered different sources of light, such as flashlights, glow sticks, and a light table, learning how light helps us see at night. The children also had the opportunity to venture into a dark space, where they used flashlights to observe objects in the "night sky" and enjoyed shadow play.
On a sunny day, they explored rainbows in the sky, painting mirrors with vibrant colours and creating rainbow-like patterns with salt. Additionally, the children had great fun exploring sounds, using everyday household items like pans and bottles to create their own music, further enhancing their sensory and auditory skills. They also experimented with loud and soft sounds using different items, such as tearing paper, dripping water, and striking hard objects to produce varied sounds.
Nursery - Literacy
Written by Ms. Jill and Ms. Jillian
The Nursery had an absolute blast this week learning the letter sound /m/, packed with fun, movement, and plenty of excitement! From singing and jumping to magical milk experiments, the children dived into discovering the /m/ sound while exploring words like moon, milk, mango, money, monkey, and mouse. It was a week full of hands-on learning and playful activities!
We kicked things off with the lively song, Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. The kids couldn’t get enough of singing along and jumping around, pretending to be the monkeys bouncing on the bed. Every time we sang “monkey,” they emphasized the /m/ sound, making it even more fun as they bounced, wiggled, and giggled to the rhythm.
Next, we brought in Jolly Phonics with the /m/ song, where the children rubbed their tummies as if munching on something delicious. "Mmm!" they said, pretending to savor treats like mangoes and yummy snacks. This combination of song, action, and sound helped them connect the /m/ sound to words like mango, money, and milk in an exciting and interactive way.
The excitement continued with a bit of Milk Magic! The children dipped cotton swabs into food coloring and touched them to a plate of milk, watching in awe as the colors swirled and danced. As we marveled at the magic, we reinforced words like milk and magic, connecting them to the /m/ sound in a colorful, hands-on way.
To make the learning even more fun, we set up a sensory activity with dried macaroni in a tub filled with pictures of words that start with the /m/ sound. The children had a blast scooping and searching through the macaroni to find pictures of monkey, mouse, moon, and more. They loved feeling the texture of the macaroni while reinforcing their understanding of the /m/ sound through this playful, tactile experience.
To wrap up the week, the children got creative with art, coloring pictures of a mouse and a monkey. As they worked on their drawings, they happily repeated the words “mouse” and “monkey,” reinforcing the /m/ sound while showing off their artistic skills.
By the end of the week, the Nursery class was confidently identifying and saying the /m/ sound in words like monkey, milk, mango, money, moon, and mouse. It was a week full of laughter, creativity, and learning, and we can’t wait to continue exploring new sounds and words in the weeks to come!
PreK - Maths
Written by Ms. Joy
The journey to understanding numbers in Pre-K is a delightful and ongoing adventure. Engaging with each number in enjoyable ways includes assembling puzzles, counting stickers, colouring, tracing, painting and counting small objects, all of which help develop the children’s fine motor skills. Small group exercises and one-on-one interactions provide a more tailored learning experience, accommodating different learning styles.
We also explored numbers 1-10 through songs, dance, and movement, which the children eagerly anticipated each day, both inside and outside the classroom. Teamwork games fostered collaboration as the kids worked together to organize numbers and practise one-to-one correspondence. Moreover, they followed verbal paths for each number to reinforce their recall and mastery.
These engaging activities, filled with laughter, discoveries, and creative expressions, made learning numbers in Pre-K a fun and natural way to integrate math into their daily lives.
"Play is the highest form of research, and when children engage with math through play, they build a deep understanding of concepts by exploring, experimenting, and discovering in a joyful and meaningful way.”

Van Gogh-Inspired Sunflower Collages! 🌻✨
Our talented Grade 1 students embarked on an exciting mixed-media art project inspired by Van Gogh’s iconic sunflowers. This creative activity allowed them to explore a variety of art techniques while developing essential motor skills. They began by drawing detailed sunflowers and coloring them with colored pencils, which helped refine their fine motor skills and attention to detail. Next, they painted vibrant watercolor backgrounds, enhancing their hand-eye coordination and ability to control brushstrokes. To complete their artwork, students blended oil pastels to create beautiful gradient effects on the vases, practicing controlled pressure and smooth blending motions. Finally, they assembled their pieces into a stunning collage, further developing their precision cutting and arrangement skills. This project not only nurtured their creativity but also strengthened key motor skills, laying a foundation for their artistic growth and confidence.
Grade 2 PSD - Conflict Resolution
Written by Ms. Lecya
This week, Grade 2 students took a big step in understanding how to resolve conflicts effectively through an engaging group project. Working in teams of four, the young learners conducted independent research using iPads to explore conflict resolution strategies. The room filled with excitement as students collaborated to find age-appropriate articles to gather meaningful insights.
Each group carefully designed a poster to showcase their findings. The goal was to create clear, simple, and relatable steps to help their peers handle conflicts with kindness and understanding. From "Stop and Stay Calm" to "Talk and Listen," the posters reflected thoughtful strategies that students can easily remember and apply.
Hopefully, the final poster can be displayed around the Elementary School (ES) building, transforming hallways into learning spaces that promote kindness and understanding. By putting conflict resolution into action, these young learners are not just preparing for everyday challenges—they’re helping to create a kinder, more understanding school community. The Grade 2 team is proud of their hard work and excited to see the positive impact these projects will have!
Grade 3 - Maths
Written by Ms. Lance
Revision Week brought a whirlwind of excitement and learning for Grade 3 students as they participated in activities designed to build their confidence and hone their skills.
The week began with a high-energy challenge, 60 Squares in 60 Minutes. Students tackled 60 math problems in an hour, choosing to solve each problem alone or with a partner. After solving, they brought their answers to Ms. Lance for review. If incorrect, they were given a second chance to revise their solutions. With each correct answer, students signed their initials on a numbered square of their choice. This fast-paced activity encouraged teamwork, accuracy, and the ability to perform under pressure.
Beyond this, students played interactive games like the Factors and Multiples Game and Buzz Seven, which transformed mathematical concepts into fun and competitive experiences.
An essential part of the week was the student-led discussions. Grade 3 learners enthusiastically shared their problem-solving strategies and approaches to basic calculations. These discussions not only showcased their understanding but also allowed peers to learn from each other's techniques.
Revision Week proved to be an engaging and rewarding experience for the students, blending collaboration, critical thinking, and a lot of fun!
