Grandparents’ Day
Written by Ms. Klara, Ms. April, Ms. Czarina, and Ms. Lorely
On 30 September, the Early Years Department held a heartwarming Grandparents’ Day celebration to honour the grandparents of Kinder 1 and Kinder 2 students. The students were filled with excitement as their grandparents were welcomed into the classrooms.
The event began with a fun, interactive session where the grandparents shared their favourite foods, games, hobbies from their youth, and personal stories, delighting the young students with memories and experiences. For Kinder 1 students, the highlight of the celebration was a scavenger hunt around the campus, where the grandparents and their grandchildren teamed up to find items and take fun selfies together. The enthusiasm and active participation from both generations made the activities even more enjoyable.
For the grand finale, an assembly was held where the K1 and K2 students performed a special “Happy Grandparents’ Day” song and proudly presented handmade cards to their grandparents. The atmosphere was filled with love and appreciation, creating lasting memories for both the students and their beloved grandparents.
It was truly a meaningful celebration, as the children expressed their gratitude and affection, making the day unforgettable. As the students so beautifully put it: “Happy Grandparents’ Day! We love you!
Toddler Chinese Language
Written by Ms. Bi Qin
In the first term, the Toddler class focuses on the themes of "My Family" and "Facial Features", while also introducing the traditional Chinese festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival. Our teaching approach is flexible and dynamic, combining activities such as rhythmic movement, crafts, and storytelling to create an immersive Chinese language learning environment for the children.
For example, when learning the word "hand", the teacher guides the toddlers to touch objects made of different materials to understand the function of the hand. By allowing them to use a plastic knife to cut jelly, the children not only learn the words "hand" and "cut" but also develop their hand-eye coordination. During the lesson on facial features, the children will have the opportunity to place eyes, noses, mouths, and ears on different faces, using this fun game to deepen their understanding of facial feature names and improve cognitive skills.
Additionally, we incorporate rhythmic movement, fun crafts, and storytelling to engage children in interactive Chinese learning, sparking their interest in the language and fostering early language expression and comprehension skills.
Nursery Understanding The World
Written by Ms. Jill and Ms. Jillian
What an exciting day in Nursery as we delved into the cosy world of sound sleep during our Pyjama Party! All the children came dressed in their favourite pyjamas, snuggled up with their beloved stuffed toys, ready for a day of fun and friendship. The room was filled with giggles as everyone shared the delicious snacks they had brought from home, creating a delightful picnic atmosphere that made everyone's hearts and bellies happy!
To kick off our adventures, the teacher read the enchanting story Goodnight Moon. The children were captivated by the rhythmic words and whimsical illustrations, eagerly saying goodnight to everything in the story. After storytime, it was time for some action! We settled in with popcorn as we watched a thrilling clip from Kung Fu Panda. Laughter filled the room as everyone cheered for Po, realising that even the silliest heroes have exciting journeys.
As the day wound down, we transformed our space into a dreamy, starlit sky using a star projector lamp. The children lay back, pretending to drift off to sleep under the twinkling stars, with their stuffed friends by their side. This magical moment helped them understand how important a good night’s sleep is for dreaming big and waking up ready for new adventures. What a fantastic way to explore the wonders of sound sleep!
PreK PE
Written by Mr. Victor
In Pre-K PE, we explored jumping over cones and practised the most efficient way to jump by swinging our arms and bending our knees more deeply. The children enjoyed experimenting with different distances, challenging themselves to jump further with each attempt. We also focused on landing softly to develop control and balance, making the activity both fun and skill-building.
K1 Literacy
Written by Ms. April
In Kinder 1 literacy class, students are immersed in a variety of activities that make learning engaging and interactive. Each session begins with storytime, where children listen to captivating tales, fostering their love of reading and developing their comprehension skills.
The class revisits the Jolly Phonics Group 2 sounds, helping children recall letter sounds and associate them with objects. For hands-on learning, students trace letters in sand, building their fine motor skills while reinforcing letter recognition. They also form letters using playdough, a fun way to practise letter shapes, and work on writing them with pencils.
As the class progresses, students are introduced to blending CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, laying the foundation for early reading. By combining these interactive activities, the literacy class provides a balanced approach that nurtures both phonetic awareness and fine motor development, setting the stage for confident young readers.
K2 Music
Written by Ms. Melissa
In the K2 music lessons, we’ve been having a lot of fun exploring the xylophone! The students are learning how to bounce the mallet just right to create a beautiful, clear sound. It's not just about hitting the notes but understanding how to control their hands and keep a steady rhythm. We want everyone to feel confident in producing a good tone on the xylophone, and the children are really starting to get the hang of it!
One of the key focuses in these lessons is learning to keep the beat and follow the rhythm. We practise this by starting with simple patterns and gradually moving to more complex melodies. The students are developing a great sense of timing, which helps them play together as a group. It’s wonderful to see their excitement grow as they improve, and the energy in the room is always high when they’re playing in sync.
Our latest challenge has been playing "Hot Cross Buns" on the xylophone, which the students are nailing! Not only do they play the melody while keeping the beat, but they also sing along, which adds an extra layer of fun and complexity. This activity is fantastic for teaching them coordination, as they need to manage both their playing and singing at the same time. Everyone is doing a great job, and the progress they’re making is amazing!

Literacy Camp
Written by Mr. Robert
The Literacy Camp for Grade 1 and Grade 2, held on 27 September, was a delightful and enriching experience for all students involved. Designed to enhance literacy skills and strengthen bonds within the school community, the camp featured a range of activities that engaged students in both learning and fun.
The day commenced with a welcoming song and an overview of the camp's expectations, ensuring students were focused and ready for the activities ahead. This was followed by a captivating non-fiction read-aloud session, which sparked curiosity and discussion among the students. In groups, they then tackled a limerick-writing activity, encouraging creativity and teamwork.
One of the highlights of the camp was the Vocabulary Hunt, where students eagerly searched for words hidden in plastic eggs across the playground. This interactive game made learning new vocabulary both exciting and memorable. In the afternoon, students enjoyed a storytelling session, followed by reading with a friend, where they took turns exploring books from the classroom library.
As the day drew to a close, students were treated to a performance of The Three Little Pigs, acted out by their teachers, which added a touch of theatre to the camp. This was followed by journaling, where the children reflected on the play and the day's events. The camp ended with a cosy dinner, a short movie, and a flashlight reading session under the night sky, creating a peaceful and reflective atmosphere.
The Literacy Camp successfully deepened the connection between students and teachers. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, and lasting memories.
Leadership Camp

“It’s so much fun!”
“It’s the most exciting day of school so far!”
Our Grade 3-5 students shared their excitement at the end of the Leadership Camp, which marked the success of the event.
The recent leadership camp for Grade 3-5 students aimed to instil essential leadership skills and strengthen their executive functions through a variety of activities, discussions, and group challenges. The main facilitator brought an infectious energy that kept the students excited and engaged throughout the session. This fun and dynamic approach brought out the cheerful and energetic side of the students, making the learning feel more accessible.
The camp incorporated a series of group games, such as passing a marble with a spoon, skipping rope, and navigating a blind maze. These games were a hit with the students, as they were fun and helped build teamwork. Each game provided a different challenge that required communication and cooperation—essential leadership skills.
The campfire was the highlight of the day. During the campfire, students threw their bad habits into the fire as a symbol of letting them go. The last session of the camp was a dance party with their favourite songs, followed by enjoying toasted marshmallows.
ES Fun Day
Written by Mr. Victor
For the first PE event of the year, we ensured that all elementary students could participate, and everyone did, in the fun games held on 2 October during the ES Fun Day at the MSHS Gym. A big thank you to all the ES teachers for leading the house teams with enthusiasm as we kicked off the event with the first-ever ES Fun Day cheer competition. We were wowed by the creative surprises each house prepared. The Komodo crew took first place in the cheer competition with their powerful voice projection and fierce expressions! Team Paus set the pace in the "Transfer the Ball" relay, securing a convincing victory. Team Gajah made a thrilling comeback to win the "Basket Relay," and towards the end of the event, Team Elang soared through the "Blind Maze" to claim 1st place, ultimately securing the overall win after all the scores were tallied. I trust everyone enjoyed the event—congratulations on a fun and successful day, made possible by your participation!

Dream Big! Exploring Future Goals in Grade 1 Bahasa Indonesia
In Grade 1, one of the most exciting units in our Bahasa Indonesia class is about future goals, where students learn new vocabulary while thinking about what they want to be when they grow up.
Throughout this lesson, students have enthusiastically shared their ambitions, and it’s inspiring to see the variety of dreams they have. Some want to be teachers, sharing knowledge with future generations, while others are drawn to the creativity and precision of being chefs or engineers.
Some students dream of the spotlight as singers and dancers, while others are fascinated by space and want to become astronauts.
Two students dream of becoming soldiers, inspired by the idea of protecting the country and showing bravery. And of course, there are children who are inspired by her role model at home and want to become “ibu rumah tangga” (housewife) like her mom, seeing the value in nurturing a family.
This activity, while fun, also serves a deeper purpose. It helps children expand their vocabulary and express their dreams in Bahasa Indonesia. This not only enhances their language skills but also builds their confidence in expressing themselves in front of others.
Let’s continue to be inspired by our children’s dreams and work together to encourage their growth—both in their Bahasa Indonesia lessons and in their aspirations for the future!
Grade 2 PE
Written by Mr. Victor
In Grade 2 PE, we introduced racing matches into our activities to showcase the running form we’ve learned and practised. We ensured that our students had several opportunities to race against different opponents in these short races, encouraging them to keep moving forward after each result. This approach also helps foster their competitive spirit, motivating them to push themselves in challenges beyond the comfort of their homes and classrooms.
Grade 3 Music
Written by Ms. Melissa
After a successful performance at the Mid-Autumn Festival with the song "Yuan Yue Liang", the students have shifted their focus to mastering the recorder. They’ve started by learning the proper blowing technique, emphasising the use of the "t" sound to control their breath and produce a clear, consistent tone. This foundational skill sets them up for success as they dive deeper into their recorder lessons. To guide their progress, the students have begun the Recorder Karate programme. This fun and engaging programme teaches them how to play the recorder step by step, much like earning belts in martial arts. Each song they learn brings them closer to mastering new skills and earning the next belt level. The programme is designed to motivate students to practise and improve their technique gradually. Currently, the class has reached the green belt level by playing the song "It's Raining". It’s been an exciting journey so far, and they’re determined to keep up the great work!
Grade 4 English
Written by Mr. Marc
Grade 4 is off to a great start in English Language class. Students are focused on the reading comprehension challenges of the OIE Student Book and on the new language terms that are required as Grade 4 students continue to seek mastery in English grammar.
In the pictures of the football pitch, you can see the students working to match language terms like metaphor and concrete noun with their definitions and examples.
After finishing a unit on 1st person and 3rd person fictional narratives, students started crafting personal recounts. Below, you can see students working in teams to brainstorm ideas of past events they’ve attended that they can write about. They are collaborating to come up with “power” words and phrases, such as a mesmerising scenic view and the conditions were abysmal on the bus.
Overall, students are engaged in their studies, they are contributing to their learning, and the are creating a positive and warm classroom environment.
Grade 5 Science
Written by Ms. Shirley
The Grade 5 students recently completed an exciting activity called "You Have a Mission," where they designed and built boats to hold as many marbles as possible. Through this challenge, they applied what they had learned about buoyancy from their recent project, investigating materials and factors to create the base for a floral lantern for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The students explored key forces like buoyancy and gravity, experimenting with different shapes and materials to prevent their boats from sinking. They also learned about friction and water resistance, which influenced how their ships moved through the water.
This hands-on activity provided them with practical insights into how various forces work in real-life scenarios while enhancing their problem-solving skills.
