EARLY YEARS
Written by Ms. Jill
Our Toddler class had a terrific time learning all about the letter /t/. The excitement began with exploring a real tomato. The children used the strength of their little hands to open it up, discovering the slimy seeds inside. Their curious faces and bright eyes showed just how fascinated they were as they touched and felt the textures of the tomato.
Another highlight was meeting a giant set of teeth! The children’s eyes beamed with wonder when they saw the large model, and they had so much fun practicing how to brush it using a big toothbrush. This simple activity not only reinforced the /t/ sound but also gave them a chance to practice healthy habits in a playful way.
Our learning continued outdoors, where the children headed to the sandpit in search of trains and trucks. With shovels in hand, they dug through the sand with determination and excitement. Some of our brave toddlers even walked barefoot in the sand, exploring with their senses and showing confidence.
NURSERY - Mathematics

In Nursery maths, the children set off on a joyful journey into the world of colours and shapes. Armed with paintbrushes, they dipped into bright primary colours and discovered the magic of mixing them to create exciting new secondary shades. Their little hands and big imaginations brought to life vibrant artworks, each one a proud expression of their creativity. The stories Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and Mouse Paint added to the children’s sense of wonder, inspiring them to see colours as playful friends that can blend, change, and surprise.
The adventure continued with an exploration of shapes, beginning with circles and squares. Giggles filled the classroom as the children stamped colourful shapes onto paper, hopped along lively shape patterns on the floor, and set off on a cheerful “shape hunt” around the room. They eagerly collected objects and sorted them into groups, discovering how shapes are hidden all around us. The children’s colourful journey into shapes and colours has sparked creativity, strengthened problem-solving skills, and inspired active learning, turning each classroom moment into something both meaningful and joyful.

In our Understanding the World lesson, we explored the theme of family—a topic our Pre-K children can easily relate to, as family is the most special and important part of their lives. The children eagerly brought and shared pictures of their families during show and tell, proudly pointing out parents, siblings, and even their grandparents. They spoke with joy about the moments they spend together, such as playing, eating, or traveling, showing how much they treasure these bonds. Even during online class, the children were delighted when their parents joined in for a quick hello, making the lesson even more meaningful.
To extend their learning, the children made family photo frames, finger puppets and engaged in family role-play activities, such as eating meals together and bathing baby dolls, which allowed them to practise care, responsibility, and love. Finally, the children created drawings of their families inside a home, helping them express their understanding of family as a place of warmth, care, and belonging—truly a reflection of their happy hearts.

Our K1 students had such an exciting time learning about the Five Senses (Panca Indera) in the recent Indonesian Language class!
For warming up, the children were energetically engaged during the “I Spy” game. The focus was on the sense of sight, which sparked their eagerness to search for objects based on clues in Indonesian language. Their eyes lit up each time they spotted the right item and proudly showed the item to their friends.
To deepen their understanding, the children practiced with a sorting game. Each child received a card with an object and decided which sense it belonged to. They were able to match the objects with confidence and proudly said it out loud, like ‘Eyes for watching a TV!’ (Mata untuk melihat TV!)
We wrapped up the session with a joyful craft activity. The children made a colourful plastic plate mask to represent their five senses. With pipe cleaners as mouths, they shaped smiles and other expressions to show how they felt.
Through these activities, K1 students applied their understanding of the five senses by explaining their functions in simple sentences. They also learned to recognize where the senses are located while creating their craft, making the learning experience both meaningful and fun!

In PE, the K2 students practiced catching to build their hand-eye coordination. To make the activity exciting, the class lined up and worked together to catch the beanbag one at a time. The challenge was that if someone dropped it, we had to start over until everyone succeeded. The children showed great focus, patience, and teamwork as they encouraged each other. It was wonderful to see how they stayed determined and celebrated when the whole class completed the task without dropping. This activity not only improved their catching skills but also helped them learn the value of working together. Click the link to see a clip of the students catching it!

In Grade 1, students are joyfully preparing for their Mid-Autumn Festival performance. This year, they are exploring the Orff approach, which enables them to create music through play and creativity. Using instruments such as the bass xylophone, alto xylophone, glockenspiel, and a variety of percussion, the children are learning to listen, cooperate, and perform together as an ensemble. Each instrument has a special role, and students enjoy discovering how different sounds blend to create harmony and rhythm.
Alongside their ensemble work, Grade 1 is building foundational music skills. They are learning basic rhythms, focusing on ta (quarter note) and titi (two eighth notes), which help them clap, chant, and play simple patterns. These rhythms also support their coordination and timing, preparing them for more advanced music-making in the future. In addition, the children are being introduced to the musical staff, discovering how notes move in steps and skips. This early exposure lays the groundwork for understanding pitch and reading music.
Through this preparation, students not only develop musical skills but also gain confidence and joy in performing. The Mid-Autumn performance will be a wonderful celebration of their learning and creativity.

This month, our students are working on an exciting project! The task is simple but meaningful: write and draw a short story comic with the theme “Protect Our Environment.”
The project gives every student a chance to be both a writer and an artist. First, they think of a story about how we can take care of the Earth, for example, planting trees, reducing plastic, saving water, or keeping the school clean. Then, they bring the story to life by drawing it as a fun comic.
Students are very enthusiastic about this project. Some groups are creating superheroes who save the forest, while others are drawing families who recycle at home. Every comic is unique and full of creativity!
Through this activity, students not only practice their writing and drawing skills, but also learn an important message: our Earth needs us! Protecting the environment is something everyone can do, even in small ways.
We can’t wait to see the amazing comics displayed on the classroom walls. 🌱✨

In Indonesian Language Acquisition, students worked on a project: creating an Independence Day Booklet. This activity combined language learning with creativity, giving them the opportunity to practise writing simple sentences in Indonesian while also illustrating their ideas through drawings.
The booklet featured short reflections about Indonesia’s Independence Day and highlighted the role of community helpers who supported the school’s celebration. Students wrote about teachers, parents, and staff, expressing appreciation for their contributions. By doing so, they not only honoured the people around them but also expanded their Indonesian vocabulary, improved sentence structure, and developed their ability to share thoughts in another language.

In Grade 3 PE, students were introduced to frisbee for the first time. The class learned how to throw and catch while also practicing how to find open space instead of crowding the person holding the disc. This activity helped them develop hand-eye coordination, focus, and teamwork as they worked on passing and moving together. Some students can continue improving by keeping their throws level and adjusting their grip for better control. They can also practise moving into space more quickly so their teammates have clear options for passing. Overall, the class showed enthusiasm and made a strong start in learning the basics of frisbee. Some of the students even started borrowing the frisbee to play on every playground time!

In their recent ICT class, Grade 4 students explored the basics of Google Sheets through hands-on activities focused on creating math tables. They worked on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division tables from 1 to 10, learning how to input and organize numbers into rows and columns. By applying simple formulas, they quickly generated results across the tables, allowing them to see how spreadsheets can simplify repetitive tasks in mathematics. This activity not only strengthened their digital skills but also reinforced their understanding of basic math operations while encouraging logical thinking and accuracy.
The lesson also introduced students to the visual side of data by teaching them how to create charts based on their math tables. They enjoyed turning the results of their operations into colourful bar and pie charts, which gave them a new perspective on interpreting numerical information. By combining math practice with technology, the activity showed how Google Sheets can make learning both effective and engaging. Overall, the session built their confidence in using spreadsheets while helping them see the connection between ICT skills and everyday learning in mathematics.

The new school year is off to a fantastic start for our Grade 5 English Language students. As the oldest learners in the Elementary School, these students are stepping into their roles as leaders with pride and purpose. 🚨They’ve already begun helping Grade 3 students carry their heavy school bags up the stairs each morning — a simple but meaningful act of kindness that sets the tone for a caring school community.
Grade 5 students are diving into rich reading and learning experiences using the Oxford International English Student Book and students have access to Raz-Kids.com, where they explore texts matched to their reading level. They’re also building their oral English skills through engaging activities, discussions, and games — making speaking fun and confidence-boosting.
👀 In the coming weeks, Grade 5 will participate in a special reading buddy activity with our Early Years students, bringing stories to life for younger children while developing their own fluency and expression. These kinds of connections help foster responsibility, empathy, and joy in communication.
🛡️We’re proud of how our Grade 5 students have embraced the year so far — academically and as mentors. Keep it up, leaders!
Grade 5 is not only learning — they’re leading.
