Early Years & Elementary School Grade Level Meeting
Written by Ms. Kelly
The school year is officially underway! On Thursday, 1 August 2025, the Early Years and Elementary School (EYES) department held our first parent meeting for the 2025–2026 academic year. This meeting served as a great opportunity to welcome both new and returning parents, as well as introduce our dedicated team, including new members. During the annual grade-level meeting, parents received valuable information about updates, programs, and plans for the year ahead. It was a wonderful way to kick off what promises to be an engaging and successful academic year!
TODDLER - Welcome
Written by Ms. Jill
The first week was a blast for Toddler class! A big thank-you to all the parents who joined us during these first few days—your presence made the classroom feel extra warm and welcoming.
The children spent the week getting to know their wonderful teachers and making new friends. We explored our daily routines together, discovered favorite spots in the classroom, and sang lots of cheerful songs (some of which might already be stuck in your heads at home!).
It’s been such a joy watching the children’s smiles grow wider each day as they settle into their new school adventure. We can’t wait to see what fun and learning next week will bring!
NURSERY - Welcome
Written by Ms. Ann
What an exciting start to our Nursery adventure!
The children have been busy exploring their new surroundings, making new friends, and settling into our daily routines. We’ve shared joyful stories, sung cheerful songs, created colourful art, and filled our days with playful learning moments.
It has been heartwarming to watch their confidence blossom. Those shy first steps turn into happy smiles at the door, eager participation in activities, and little voices beginning to express their thoughts in their own special ways. There may still be a few tears, but each day brings us closer to a smooth and happy transition as they learn to embrace their Nursery days without mums by their side.
Thank you for your trust and support in helping your little ones adjust so beautifully. We look forward to many more weeks filled with laughter, learning, and precious discoveries together!
PRE-K - Welcome
Written by Ms. Joy and Ms. April
Welcome to Pre-K! Hooray! 🎉
The first week of Pre-K is a special beginning chapter to remember.
Some of us came in with bright smiles, ready to explore. Some of us held on tight to Mommy and Daddy, feeling a little shy or letting out a few tears (or a lot!). But that’s okay — we’re learning how to be brave, to find comfort in our teachers and friends, and to understand our feelings. 😉
Every day, our students are building small but important habits to start a good and positive routine: changing into their indoor shoes, tidying up their own bags and putting them neatly in the cubby, and remembering to wash their hands after using the toilet or before eating.
In the classroom, bright smiles are everywhere as the students enjoy fun activities! They coloured their very own name tags and worked together in groups to create a big, beautiful rainbow. 🌈 Through these activities, they are learning not just about colours and names, but also about teamwork and the joy of sharing.
It’s only week 1, but we’re already making friends, getting to know our teachers, building positive routines, and filling our days with pure bliss — and we can’t wait for more! 🌟

Welcome to Kindergarten 1! The first week of school has been a joyful and exciting time as our young learners began their new adventure in K1. This week, the children were introduced to fun and engaging activities that helped them settle into their new environment. From learning classroom routines to understanding simple rules, each day was filled with discovery and learning. They explored different learning corners, listened to stories, sang songs, and participated in creative play—all designed to help them feel comfortable and confident in their new classroom.
It was heartwarming to see how quickly the children adjusted and began forming friendships. With gentle guidance, they learned how to take turns, share materials, and work together during group activities. Outdoor play was definitely a highlight of their week, as they ran, climbed, and laughed with new friends. Their happy faces and growing independence show that they are off to a great start, and we look forward to more wonderful moments ahead in Kindergarten 1!

A Joyful Start to Kindergarten 2!
What an exciting first week it has been for our Kindergarten 2 students! They were all smiles as they reunited with friends, sharing hugs, laughter, and stories from their holidays. This time, the excitement was even greater as they explored their brand-new classroom, discovering colourful learning corners, fresh supplies, and cozy spaces for reading and creating. Meeting their new teachers was a big highlight, and everyone quickly began building a sense of community. Together, we jumped right into engaging, hands-on activities in every subject, from problem-solving games in mathematics to creative projects in art and science.
We also spent time making our classroom agreements, learning how to work together respectfully and kindly. The children embraced new routines with curiosity, from organising their belongings in the morning to tidying up after activities. Each day was filled with laughter, exploration, and opportunities to try something new. They showed wonderful teamwork when completing group challenges, creativity during art sessions, and boundless enthusiasm for learning—it’s clear we’re off to a fantastic year of growth, friendship, and discovery. If the first week is anything to go by, this will be a year full of achievements, joyful memories, and exciting adventures in Kindergarten 2!
GRADE 1
Written by Ms. Wendi
During our first week together, Grade 1 has been learning about the expectations of not only Grade 1, but also as a student in the elementary school. Students have been excited and eager to learn in their new school home, the Koi building, and it’s been wonderful to learn about each student’s personality and strengths. We began our pre-assessments in phonemic awareness, which will provide crucial data in each student’s needs to become strong academic readers in English, which is imperative in all subjects at SWA. The Ex Fair held on Friday afternoon was an excellent way to observe the student’s personal curiosities and their natural desire to learn different topics. Students gravitated towards a variety of topics, from baking to dance to more technology-based offerings such as coding for kids or Lego Wedo. I am thrilled to be learning with Grade 1 this year and know it will be a successful, yet challenging, year of progress!
GRADE 2 - Science
Written by Ms. Shirley
Grade 2 students kicked off their science journey by learning that science is the study of the world through observation, investigation, and problem-solving. To bring this idea to life, they tackled the Gummy Tower Challenge, using gummy candies and toothpicks to create the tallest freestanding tower they could. Through this fun and hands-on activity, they practiced the steps of scientific inquiry, such as asking questions, making predictions, testing their ideas, and reflecting on what they discovered.
In a separate activity, they used rulers, magnifying glasses, and other science tools to learn how scientists measure and observe, sparking teamwork and curiosity while discovering how fun science can be.
GRADE 3 - Indonesian Language (ILL and ILA)

August is here, and the countdown to Indonesia’s Independence Day has begun!🎉
To celebrate this special occasion, our Grade 3 students are created an “Independence Booklet”. In this booklet, they coloured pictures of Indonesian Independence Day activities, such as sack races, climbing the panjat pinang, and flag parades. They will also include photos of themselves during the celebrations and short stories about their experiences.
Even though our class is made up of students from different cultural backgrounds, everyone can join in this project to learn about and appreciate Indonesia’s traditions. This activity is not only fun but also brings many benefits, such as:
Building respect and appreciation for Indonesia’s history and culture.
Improving writing skills through personal storytelling.
Encouraging creativity by colouring and decorating the booklet.
Capturing memorable moments to look back on in the future.
Through this project, we hope students will enjoy celebrating together, while also understanding that independence is a precious gift earned through hard work and unity. Let’s celebrate and keep the spirit of freedom alive! Merdeka! 🇮🇩✨
GRADE 4 - PE
Written by Mr. Victor
Welcome back to PE!
The first week back from the school break brought fresh energy and excitement to our PE sessions. We began by revisiting our PE routines and discussing expectations for the year ahead. The Grade 4s shared their own ideas for what should guide our class. Together, they chose our theme for PE this year: Discipline, Respect, and Perseverance. Three values they believe will help us succeed in every activity.
With our theme set, we moved into practice, getting back into the rhythm of our routines. The students approached the exercises with enthusiasm, reawakening their bodies for active learning.
Finally, wrapped up the session with a much-anticipated favorite game: Capture the Flag. This lively game not only brought out friendly competition but also reminded us of the joy of playing with friendly familiar faces in SWA.
GRADE 5 - PSD
Written by Ms. Lindi
Discovering Strengths and Feelings
In our first two weeks of PSD, Grade 5 students have been on a journey of self-discovery, learning about their emotions and identifying how the brains work.
We began by exploring emotional intelligence, the ability to recognise and manage our feelings while understanding the feelings of others. These skills help students stay focused, solve problems calmly, and build stronger friendships.
In Week 2, we got ready for the upcoming CAT-4 (Cognitive Ability Test). Students learned that CAT-4 is not a graded test; it’s a “brain map” that shows their unique strengths and areas to grow. The test assesses four areas: verbal, non-verbal, quantitative, and spatial reasoning, through fun challenges like puzzles, number problems, stories, and map reading.
These two weeks set the foundation for students to develop self-awareness, especially their abilities, and see challenges as opportunities for growth, which are important skills for both school and life.
