CEMC Mathematics Contest, University of Waterloo, Canada

On Thursday, 29 February 2024 students around the globe participated in the Pascal, Cayley and Fermat Contests. The competition is run by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at University of Waterloo Canada and is used as a way to gauge student skills and understanding against the rest of the world. Over 43,900 of Grade 9 to 11 students from around the world participated in this year’s Pascal, Cayley and Fermat Contests, which tested student abilities in Mathematics. The CEMC develops many internationally recognized contests to help to inspire the next generation of students to develop an interest in and love for Mathematics.

Pick-up by Parents

• Show Parent’s SWA ID to the Admin upon pick-up

Pick-up by Guardian (registered in SWA)

• Bring the required documents to be shown to Admin upon pick-up:

  1. Authorisation letter with stamp and signed by the Parent 

  2. Show Guardian’s SWA ID

• Guardian may only take the report card upon presentation of all the required documents above

In case parents/guardians are unable to attend, the reports will be stored and distributed in the next academic year. Pickup times for reports on Thursday, 13 June 2024, are as follows:

汉语水平考试

HSK

       HSK是一项国际汉语水平标准化考试，旨在评估包括外国人、华侨、华裔和中国少数民族考生的汉语水平。该考试用于衡量考生在日常生活、学术和职业生活中使用汉语的能力。

HSK is an international standardised Chinese language proficiency test aimed at evaluating the Chinese language proficiency of candidates, including foreigners, overseas Chinese, Chinese of Chinese descent, and Chinese ethnic minorities. This exam is used to measure a candidate's ability to use Chinese in their daily, academic, and professional lives.

       目前的HSK分为六个级别。 HSK 6 为最高级别，通过此级别的考生应能够轻松理解所听到或阅读的中文内容，并能以口头或书面形式流利地用中文表达意见。

The current HSK is divided into six levels. HSK 6 is the highest level, and candidates who pass this level should be able to easily understand the Chinese content they hear or read and be able to express their opinions fluently in Chinese Speaking or in writing.

       HSK考试每年在中国和海外举行数次。 达到所选级别考试成绩要求者，可获得相应的《汉语水平证书》。这些证书在中国和国外都得到认可，是证明汉语水平的官方途径。

The HSK exam is held several times a year in China and overseas. Those who meet the requirements of the selected level exam will receive the corresponding Chinese Language Proficiency Certificate. These certificates are recognized both in China and abroad as official means of proving one's proficiency in the Chinese language.

       写作是一种表达思想、传递信息的重要方式，而且写作对于个人的成长和发展有着重要的意义。

Writing is an important way to express ideas and convey information, and it is of great significance for personal growth and development.

       首先，写作可以帮助我们提高语言表达能力。通过写作，我们可以锻炼自己文字表达能力，提高用此用词的准确性和语法的规范性。

Firstly, writing can help us improve our language expression skills. Through writing, we can exercise our written expression ability, improve the accuracy of using these words, and standardise grammar.

       其次，写作可以促进思维的深入和拓展。通过写作，我们可以将自己的思想和观点清晰地表达出来，从而使我们深入思考和理清思绪。

Secondly, writing can promote the deepening and expansion of thinking. Through writing, we can express our thoughts and viewpoints clearly, allowing us to think deeply and clarify our thoughts.

       另外，写作可以增强记忆力和思维能力。通过写作，我们可以将所学知识进行总结和归纳，从而加深对知识的理解和记忆。

In addition, writing can enhance memory and thinking abilities. Through writing, we can summarise the knowledge we have learned, thereby deepening our understanding and memory of the knowledge.

       此外，写作可以培养情感和审美情趣。通过写作，我们可以表达自己的情感和情绪，释放压力，调节情绪，增强自信心，树立正确的人生观和价值观。

In addition, writing can cultivate emotions and aesthetic taste. Through writing, we can express our feelings and emotions, release stress, regulate emotions, enhance self-confidence, and establish a correct outlook on life and values.

       因此，我们应该重视写作，多加练习，不断提高自己的写作水平，从而收获写作带来的种种好处。希望大家能够珍惜写作，享受写作的乐趣，不断提高自己的写作能力。

Therefore, we should attach importance to writing, practise more, and continuously improve our writing skills in order to reap the various benefits that writing brings. I hope everyone can cherish writing, enjoy the fun of writing, and continuously improve their writing skills.

       中文之美，美到一笔一画，美到一意一音。在时间的长流中，中华文化以其独特的韵味穿越国界、连结心灵。今天，我们在这里相聚，共同见证一场跨文化的诵读盛宴，这就是第七届全球华语朗诵大赛。本次大赛，我校从EY、ES到MSHS，共有27名选手参加了印尼赛区初赛的角逐。

The beauty of Chinese characters lies in each and every stroke, its symbolic meaning and pronunciation. Chinese culture has crossed national borders and connects millions of souls with its unique charm. Last month, we took part in a cross-cultural recitation feast, which is the 7th Global Chinese Language Recitation Competition. In this competition, our school had 27 contestants from EY, ES, and MSHS participating in the preliminary round of the Indonesian division.

       朗诵，不仅是声音的艺术，更是情感与文化的传递。在这里，中文的每一个字、每一行诗，都被赋予了新的生命，让全球听众感受到它的魅力。通过选手们的朗诵，古老的文字变得生动而有力，展现出对中华文化深沉的热爱。这次大赛，不仅是一场朗诵的竞技场，更是一个文明交流互鉴的舞台。在这个舞台上，我们不仅听到了声音的韵律，更感受到了文化的力量。这里，每个字、每个句子，都跨越时空，让听者沉浸在中华文化的博大精深中。

Recitation is not only the art of sound but also the transmission of emotions and culture. Here, every word and line of Chinese poetry is given new life, allowing global audiences to feel its charm. Through the recitation of the contestants, ancient texts become vivid and powerful, demonstrating a deep love for Chinese culture. This competition is not only a recitation arena but also a stage for cultural exchange and mutual learning. At this stage, we not only hear the rhythm of sound but also feel the power of culture. Here, every word and sentence transcends time and space, immersing the listener in the vastness and profoundness of Chinese culture.
