TODDLER

What a pleasant surprise to see these independent little boys and girls in Toddler class. They started term 3 with impressive engagement in class.
The past three weeks were filled with activities that honed the children’s literacy skills and strengthened their fine motor abilities. While learning the letters and listening to stories, new vocabularies were added to their word banks. They also explored the underwater sea creatures. The students were enthusiastic about making the goop for the goose, peeling the orange, and making octopus using the playdough. The process in doing all these activities drew the children’s attention to dive in and enjoy exploring using their senses. Additionally, the class played with their umbrellas outdoors. They were ecstatic when the water started to fall on their umbrellas during our pretend play activity and tried spraying water using the spray bottles.
We are over the moon seeing all your remarkable progress!
NURSERY
Written by Ms. Bi Qin
Language is the carrier of culture, and language learning is inseparable from culture. As the Spring Festival is approaching, Nursery children celebrate the Spring Festival with songs and dances. In addition, we mainly learn about animal friends this term. By singing nursery rhymes, listening to stories, doing handicrafts, and playing "Pretend to feed a kitten fish" and other activities, the children happily learn Chinese.

Language is a vital part of communication and Indonesian Language is one of the primary languages we use daily with teachers, staff, parents, nannies, drivers, and the community helpers around us. The Pre-K students are keen in learning Indonesian Language through songs and some vocabularies. These past three weeks, the class explored the letter B (eg. bebek, buaya) and the things that can go in and on the water. They were also excited to put some things in the water to see if they sink or float.
We look forward to more exciting activities this year, Pre-K!

The use of ICT tools in education can benefit young children in many ways. The Kindergarten 1 students started with the basic skills such as differentiating digital and non-digital technology, what software and hardware is, and naming the parts of a computer. They had fun putting together their own paper mini laptops and identifying the major components that make up a computer.
Children nowadays are pretty tech-savvy, and when it comes to touchscreen technology they seem to be born total whizzes, somehow inherently knowing how to slide, swipe, pinch, and tap. In the past weeks, these little ones finally got the chance to explore the use of a mouse. They practised dragging and clicking as they were discovering how to use it. They learnt how to use the program Paint. It was a great opportunity for them to develop cursor control and mouse skills, as well as have fun and be creative!

As the famous Mickey Mouse motto, "First, think. Second, believe. Third, dream. And finally, dare.", our mighty Kindergarteners dared to explore and discover more maths concepts these past three weeks. These include counting to 100, identifying odd and even numbers, using ordinal numbers and place value. Among the topics discussed, they were more challenged with the tens and ones concepts while the rest were no brainers for them. They also ventured using the iPads as tools to apply their knowledge in both ordinal and cardinal numbers. Numeracy skills will be honed as they probe more on adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers in the weeks to come. These youngsters will make monumental success as they pursue to think deeper, believe stronger, dream bigger, and dare more for the year 2023!

Paul Halmos once said, “The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics”. This is the main reason why hands-on learning is very important and should always be present in the classroom. Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience which is narrowly defined as learning through doing. It helps the students notice the connections between the lessons in class and the experiences. Measuring length using non-standard units is one of the lessons we tried to put into practice. G1 students measured length using counter blocks and footsteps. They enjoyed walking in the lobby, ES gym, Koi piazza, and in their classroom while measuring the distance. Also, teamwork is well practiced through group work and collaboration during Kahoot games in team mode. KooBits also provided great help for students especially in answering questions related to our current topics.

交通工具是大家经常接触到的,交通安全对每个人来说也都是非常重要的。
二年级的同学们不仅学到了和交通工具的名称,而且亲手制作交通3D图,加上朗朗上口的儿歌,牢记交通安全。
Transportation and traffic safety are important to everyone. G2 students not only learned the names of vehicles, but also made 3D traffic maps to keep traffic safety in mind.
Chinese poetry has a long and rich history, dating back to the early days of Chinese literature. Additionally, Chinese poetry is known for its use of imagery, metaphor, and rhyme and often features themes of nature and love. Chinese poets tend to express their emotions through poems. It is not surprising to see many touching verses showing affection for family, friendship, love, and leisure.
The poem "Gu Lang Yue Xing", through rich imagination, ingeniously blending myths and legends, students can also feel the beauty and mystery of the moon through this poem, inspire themself to explore the vastness of space.

This term, Grade 3 is developing presentation skills. Students are learning to produce a presentation on a topic of their choice, using Keynote or Google Slides, before integrating a variety of features, such as images, videos, audio, and transitions.
As well as learning about the technical aspects of their presentation, students are also learning the importance of designing aesthetically pleasing slides, and customizing their presentation to cater to the specific needs of their audience. In the coming lessons, each team of students will present their slides to the class, ensuring that they speak clearly, confidently, and concisely, and make eye contact with the audience.
Dian showed great understanding of aesthetics, selecting suitable colours for text and background for each slide. She has added a video to this particular slide.
Aarohi’s slides were also well-designed, with just the right amount of text complemented by clear and relevant images.

The Grade 4 students have been practicing hulusi and showed fantastic progress as evident during the Holiday Concert. They performed a classical Christmas song with a hulusi ensemble in unison. They have learned and practiced all the notes in hulusi for the whole octave. Most of the students have developed their sight-reading skills with hulusi. Not only did they play hulusi but also sang and danced during their Holiday Concert performance project.
Now the Grade 4 students are preparing their class project performance in collaboration with Chinese subjects to present a 12 Chinese zodiac skit. At the end of the skit, they will also perform a Chinese song with hulusi instruments continuing with singing and dancing.

Time continues to march along, 2023 is upon us!
Grade 5 have been working hard at perfecting their persuasive writing skills! Learning to write in a clear, concise, organised, and persuasive manner is a skill that takes plenty of practice. Is it better to be healthy or rich? Should students be required to wear uniforms? Homework during the summer break?
G5 tackled these debatable questions and came up with some good persuasive arguments! Nice job G5!
