PARENT ACCESS
We had a great start in 2023 so far and as we continue to stay vigilant of world affairs and the school's overall safety and security, we also ensure that we keep the policies and routines updated. We are pleased to inform you that the Lotus lounge in Arts building is now completely open for parents who would like to wait for their children. However, we would like to advise everyone to still properly wear their mask within school premises. Please note that the pick-up and drop-off points for EY, ES, and MSHS remain the same.

SWA APPRENTICE PROGRAM
Last term break, some SWA high school students spent their holiday in a unique way. They joined a two-week programme called SWA Apprentice Programme during their holiday from December 19th to 30th. The SWA Apprentice Programme is an internship for SWA students that provides learning opportunities outside of the academic setting to help develop skills and gain professional experience.
The student apprentices worked with the department of their choice - IT, Digital Marketing, Marketing, Creative Design, and Library. Their knowledge, skills, and work ethics were put to test as they took on different projects under the mentorship of the various SWA staff and department heads.
The Digital Marketing Group learned how to analyse, promote, and advertise on social media platforms. The Marketing Group worked on brand awareness, sales strategy, partnership, and consumer behavior. Creation and implementation of design concepts using various apps were the focus for the Creative Design Group. Library resource management and website design projects while learning how to do HTML programming, CSS, and JavaScript were also explored.
The two-week learning experience did not only help the students acquire a different perspective on BEST pathways but also build their portfolio for university applications later on. Kudos to all apprentices who finished the programme very well. Hopefully, the programme gave them a very meaningful experience and we look forward to more successful apprenticeships in the future.
SWA ALUMNI GATHERING
January 6th, 2023 is a date to be remembered by all members of our community. On Friday, January 6th, 25 SWA alumni from several generations of SWA graduates gathered in school to officially celebrate the creation and establishment of the SWA Alumni Association. The gathering was held in the library and graduates of the classes of 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 were present. Around 25 alumni came to SWA to meet their peers, remember stories of their time at school, and to share what they learned and how SWA has contributed to their current success.
The Alumni Gathering included a campus tour, a picture session in the Peace Garden, and lots of fun and chill moments. It was a joyful moment and a great time. Looking ahead, we will plan more activities in the future involving our alumni and keep this momentum going so our alumni can be connected in order to develop a network of SWA community members in Indonesia and abroad. All members of the SWA Alumni association have easy access to SWA campus and will be able to receive updates from SWA via WA group, social media, and other means of communication.
Thank you SWA Alumni for your kindness and support by coming to meet us on Friday. It was great to see teachers meeting students they taught several years ago, or just recently. It was really nice to hear the stories, points of view, and to see their happy faces after meeting their friends. We are looking forward to the next SWA Alumni gathering. Congratulations SWA for one more successful initiative!
ES AND MSHS HOUR OF CODE - Computing Day
Written by Design Team: Mr. Haoken, Mr. Rajesh, and Mr. Ciaran
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide.
Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.
The Hour of Code – SWA ES and MSHS Computing Day was organised on December 13th, 2022. The purpose of this event was to offer students with activities centered on coding and computational thinking to inspire our students’ future with the wonders and possibilities of Design Thinking, Computing and Computer Science. House challenges include FIFA 20, Minecraft, SWA Hackathon, Google Logo, Dance Party - Code.org, Sports Day team video, CodeHS, and Panoramic 360
Students participated in several fun-filled activities. They all enjoyed synchronizing dance moves with music and coded dance, featuring Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and many more! The most exciting part of this event was the grand finale of FIFA E-Sports finals played in the TD Theater. The match was projected on the big screen and the theater environment was nothing less than a real stadium with super excited spectators. Students also enjoyed watching the winning dance compositions on the big screen from the morning’s Hour of Code challenge.

As music is the world's universal language, it can bring people together through the instruments they play. To further enrich musicality and creativity, SWA is now offering private classes to students, parents, and staff.

SWA LITERACY PROGRAMME
Your partner in building a strong foundation in English literacy skills is here. Join the SWA Literacy Programme! The SWA Literacy Programme features JOLLY PHONICS for ages 3-6. It is a comprehensive programme that employs a child-centred and multisensory approach to teaching the 42 sounds of the alphabet, which motivates children to build words as early as possible.
The programme is also offered to Elementary School students aged 7-11 years old. In this programme, literacy skills, (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), are further developed through exposure to stories of various genres. The language exercises are combined with activities that focus on comprehension skills (eg. summarising, inferencing, comparing and contrasting) that they can apply to all reading situations.
