SWA - MGS MUSIC COLLABORATION PROGRAM 2022
Written by Grade 6
We are Grade 6 students and we would like to share about the online music collaboration program between Sinarmas World Academy and the Methodist Girls School from Singapore. This year, we had an amazing opportunity to learn Music together with the students from the Methodist Girls School Singapore, in a collaborative ensemble performance online. We presented one of the most famous traditional songs from Jakarta, a Betawi song entitled Ondel Ondel with, a new arrangement written by Mr. Freddy. The ensemble consisted of several groups of instruments with specific roles, such as the kulintang, hulusi, recorder, ukulele, violin, and digital percussion. Our Grade 4 students played the recorder instruments, Grade 5 students played the hulusi instruments, while Grade 6 students played the kulintang instruments. The violin, digital drum pad, ukulele, and other parts of the recorder were played by the students from MGS Singapore.
We were so happy because during the preparation of the project, we had an online meeting session with MGS students and their Music teachers; and we were able to communicate and interact socially with them, and we also had the opportunity to make new friends from Singapore. During the meeting, we, as SWA students, introduced the song Ondel Ondel to them and shared the history of the song. We also made a fun quiz and games about the knowledge of the song for the MGS students. All the slide presentations and games were prepared by Grade 6 students independently. The MGS students also presented about their country and culture as an exchange. After that, we divided into small groups for discussion sessions and sharing knowledge, and every group consisted of a combination of SWA and MGS students. At the closing, we did a demonstration of the Ondel Ondel song with the kulintang instruments and shared the partiture with the MGS students so they could practice for our video collaboration.
We really enjoyed this experience and we hope next time we will be able to see them in real-life during the school exchange programme to explore and socialise more with our new friends from the Methodist Girls School Singapore. We were so excited when we knew that our final collaboration video performance would also be presented at the upcoming MGS school event in Singapore.

SWA LITERACY PROGRAMME
Your partner in building a strong foundation in English literacy skills is here. Join the SWA Literacy Programme! The SWA Literacy Programme features JOLLY PHONICS for ages 3-6. It is a comprehensive programme that employs a child-centred and multisensory approach to teaching the 42 sounds of the alphabet, which motivates children to build words as early as possible.
The programme is also offered to Elementary School students aged 7-11 years old. In this programme, literacy skills, (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), are further developed through exposure to stories of various genres. The language exercises are combined with activities that focus on comprehension skills (eg. summarising, inferencing, comparing and contrasting) that they can apply to all reading situations.
