INFANT LITERACY
Written by Ms. Ruby
This term, our infants explored different dressing up activities with the help of our mommies. They wore cute and beautiful costumes during Halloween and United Nations Day celebrations. Babies and children are naturally imitative creatures. Through dress-up and dramatic role-play, they explored the lives of other people by imitating their actions, feelings, and words.
The Infants also continued to develop different tactile stimulations through sensory play. Listening to different sounds, watching and observing different colours of lights, and tasting fruits were some of the activities we learnt from the past weeks. Indeed, when the Infants engage in sensory play, they are helping their brains develop and learn from certain aspects of their environment.
NURSERY LITERACY
Written by Ms. Mary-Ann
Hi, Jolly friends! These past few weeks, the Nursery children learnt the letters /c/, /k/, /e/, and //h/ in many exciting ways. The class echoed with the Jolly Phonic songs when the letters were introduced to the children.
"Kites are flying in the sky, k, k, k..." The children were engaged and motivated playing kites outdoors with their classmates. To enrich the students ability to recognise letters and name objects associated with them, they peeled the hard boiled egg, observed and experimented the rain cloud, practised writing the letters using different media, and making crafts, The class also revised these letters by listening to the letter sounds and spraying water on the right letter. Hitting the goal of making them learn new vocabularies, they regularly listened to read-aloud stories.
It’s fulfilling to see spectacular progress. Way to go, Nursery!
PRE-KINDERGARTEN MATHEMATICS
Written by Ms. Ruby
“One, two, three, four, five - jump!” as the song goes. The Pre-K class had fun mastering rote counting, one-to-one correspondence, and number formations. Playful and enjoyable interactions took place while they were learning how to properly count. They practised using toys, playdough, Lego blocks, and many kinds of counters. They also performed different actions, stacked items, and created a number representation.
They also played games that reinforced and developed their ideas about number sequence and traced numbers that strengthened their ability to follow the verbal paths in writing the numbers.

K2 ICT/ROBOTICS
Written by Ms. Lorely
Google Chrome, email, shut down. These technical terms are now in the vocabulary bank of our 6-year-olds. Since day 1, they have acquainted themselves on how to navigate these powerful machines. From the simple process of turning on the computer to the complicated step of logging in using their email addresses, (including forwarding emails to their parents), these youngsters have come a long way!
They truly are getting the hang of using the Google drive to drag and drop pictures to support Science content. ICT time has also been an avenue to integrate lessons in English and Math through exploring online games and activities. Looking ahead, they will be exposed to the world of simple coding. What a huge step to being savvy K2!
GRADE 1 ART
Written by Mr. Ezard
Symmetry may be more known in maths, but actually symmetry is also present in art. What is symmetry in art all about? It is when the elements of your painting or drawing balance each other out, and balance is one of the principles of art.
This week, Grade 1 students learnt to create an artwork using the symmetry principle. First, the students folded their paper in half, and then they drew only half of the object on that half side of the paper. Next, they cut following the lines while still folding the paper, and when the cutting was done and they opened the paper, they were surprised with the result. The students seemed to enjoy this kind of art. Some of them created more than one object.
GRADE 2 ENGLISH LANGUAGE
Written by Mr. Marc
What a great semester for Grade 2! They celebrated birthdays, teamwork, and collaboration on academic tasks. Students worked in groups to brainstorm, plan, draft, conference, and then write a final draft poem full of rhythm, rhyme, alliteration, metaphors, and a call to action for improving air quality in Jakarta. See examples of the drafting process below. Also, pictures are of Grade 2 students working on their Poem Projects, writing Personal Recount Plans, and participating in team building activities.
GRADE 3 SCIENCE
Written by Ms. Shirley
Can it be compressed?
We started the lesson on the States of Matter by classifying objects as solid, liquid, and gas. Then, the grade 3 students dove into the different properties of matter. They did several experiments to investigate the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. Some of the experiments involved finding which state of matter is compressible, finding out the volume of irregular solids, and observing how matter occupies space. It was followed by a teacher’s demo to show the changes in states of regular ice and dry ice. A practical test was done to observe the properties of the states of matter and the lesson ended with a cold treat - making an ice cream - to observe and find out what happens when liquid loses heat.
Observing, classifying, inferring, using apparatus and equipment, analysing, and communicating are some of the skills that the grade 3 students developed while having fun-filled activities.
GRADE 3 FIELD TRIP TO TZU CHI ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND PRESERVATION
Written by Ms. Olive
This is the first field trip for Grade 3 students this academic year. The students visited the local recycling centre in Tangerang.
Master Cheng Yen founded Tzu Chi on May 14, 1966, in Taiwan. On January 1, 2004, Tzu Chi Environmental Education and Preservation started in Indonesia. Now it has expanded to more than 20 Tzu Chi Educational Recycling Stations spread across several regions in Indonesia.
The activities started with the information and mission of the foundation, then followed by a discussion about global warming, and what can the students do to protect the environment. The facilitators showed the students the recycled materials from plastics. The students were surprised that plastics could be recycled into shirts, threads, socks, shoes, wall bricks, stools, ornaments, and other useful products. The students enjoyed the game, and snacks, and experienced how to sort waste. It was a fun and insightful field trip.
GRADE 4 ICT/ROBOTICS
Written by Mr. Ciaran
This term grade 4 has learnt about how to organise data in a spreadsheet, how to use formulas to make calculations, and how to represent spreadsheet data visually using charts. Some examples of the students’ work can be seen below.
This week the class completed their vocabulary auction, reviewing all the concepts from semester 1. Well done Jaselyn and Jet, who won the auction. Grade 4 has consistently worked very hard, and should be very proud of what they have achieved as a group this semester. It has been especially pleasing to observe the students’ willingness to support one another as they learnt concepts.
In coming lessons, the class will learn about HTML, and how it can be used to develop a webpage.
Using formulas, Bella determined the most suitable car to purchase.
Haeyun created a chart, to provide a visual representation of the data in his spreadsheet.
GRADE 5 PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Written by Mr. Dominic
Grade 5 PE saw the students go back to the swimming pool and get familiar again with the different strokes in swimming. The last time they had swimming lessons in PE was way back in Grade 2, where they started to learn the freestyle stroke. They were able to pick up where they left off quickly and were able to swim in the deep end using the freestyle stroke comfortably. Like riding a bike, they are able to swim the freestyle stroke again and are ready to move on to the next stroke, which is backstroke.
