CONGRATULATIONS
WORLD SCHOLAR'S CUP
Jakarta Round 2022 - Skittles Category
Written by Mr. Jay
On Saturday, August 27th, SWA hosted numerous schools for a day of team competition. Cancelled last year due to the pandemic, the World Scholar's Cup or WSC came back this year in full force. The WSC is a yearly competition in which students from various schools in Indonesia send a team or teams to participate, compete and enjoy a full day of challenging events. This year, the competition focused on 4 distinct challenges: The Scholar's Bowl; Collaborative writing, Team debate and the Scholar's Challenge. The competitions covered 6 main categories: Science and Technology, Social Studies, History, Art and Music, Literature and Media, and a Special Area.
Despite only having less than two weeks to prepare for this competition, the Grade 5 SWA team proved to be more than up for the battles. The SWA team comprised of: Darrell, Aradhya, and Yusra. They did amazingly well as a team, and also, individually, against stiff competition from teams from JIS, Global Jaya, MIS and a total of 50 participating schools. It was a full, grueling day, that needed them to display their knowledge, stamina, and good teamwork. What a fun and exciting time for everyone! And due to placing so well, they will now be part of the Regional division, later this year! Let's all congratulate them and wish them luck for the next round! We all are so proud of you all! Go SWA!
Here is a list of just a few of their accomplishments:
Individual Debate Champion: Darrell1st place; Aradhya 24th place; Yusra 34th place

Composition is a speech activity in which people express their ideas in written form. With the help of composition, we can not only improve our language organisation ability, but also cultivate our observation, association, imagination, thinking and memory. "ACCEPT AND LET GO"
Written by Ms. Lindi
Becoming a parent is a blessing, but at the same time is also a lifetime challenge. We cannot avoid anger, sadness, and disappointment when dealing with our children, and those emotions can influence how our children feel. We always set expectations for ourselves in raising our children. We always want to provide the best as well as to avoid damage as much as possible. When things happen out of our expectations, we will feel threatened and those emotions naturally happen. Transitioning back to school from 2 years of online to completely offline learning can be overwhelming for the parents. This 1 month of school might be the most challenging time for us. We used to monitor them very close at home, but now we need to release them and share them with the school to take control of their learning. Without acceptance of the current situation, we will struggle to feel worried most of the time.
Parents, you have the choice to take control of your well-being and not let your worries take over your days. Here are some tips that we can apply to accept and let go of the current situation:
Acceptance: Accept that changes are needed to grow
Evaluate: Evaluate your feelings and your potential that can support your role as a parent
Resources: Use the resources that can support you - people, facilities, and system
Share: Sharing is caring. Talk to the right people about your concerns and get feedback for your growth
When you feel calm and your mind is clear, it will be easier to let go of your concerns. Do not hesitate to talk to us whenever you feel overwhelmed. We are here to support you in your journey as a parent.

SWA LITERACY PROGRAMME
Your partner in building a strong foundation in English literacy skills is here. Join the SWA Literacy Programme! The SWA Literacy Programme features JOLLY PHONICS for ages 3-6. It is a comprehensive programme that employs a child-centered and multisensory approach to teaching the 42 sounds of the alphabet, which motivates children to build words as early as possible.
The programme is also offered to Elementary School students aged 7-11 years old. In this programme, literacy skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) are further developed through exposure to stories of various genres. The language exercises are combined with activities that focus on comprehension skills (eg. summarizing, inferencing, comparing and contrasting) that they can apply to all reading situations.
