Team SWA Clinches the Champion Award in the RoboMission Junior Category at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2023, Australia
Written by Mr. Haoken
The year 2023 has marked an exciting turning point in the ever-evolving field of robotics. Teams this year are diving into the heart of shipping logistics and the infrastructure of our digital technology. The challenges are multi-dimensional and of global significance. Shipping and digital technology have become intertwined in our daily lives, yet they are plagued with complexities. How can they be made safer, more sustainable, and more efficient? Enter the realm of robotics, where students from around the world are devising solutions that could reshape these industries.
The SWA RoboKnights, comprising members Audric (G10), Carlos (G8), and Ryan (G10), had prepared to exhibit their skills that promised to revolutionise both sectors. From robotic arms capable of handling shipping containers with pinpoint accuracy to intelligent algorithms that streamlined digital communication, they stood at the forefront of design and innovation. By earning the champion award in the RoboMission Junior Category at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) in Australia, they demonstrated their commitment and growth in the field.

Parent and Student Orientation Day
Written by Ms. Lisa
As a new academic year approaches, SWA once again opened its doors to both new and returning students and their families through Parent and Student Orientation events held at the Trini Theatre. These events not only extended a friendly welcome to all parents and students but also provided essential information for all SWA community to kick off a successful academic journey.
The highlight of the orientation was the Whole School Parent Orientation held at the Trini Theatre. The overview of the event focused on assisting SWA families in understanding that the school's programs, systems, and structures are tailored to cater to the distinct characteristics of SWA students. This gathering united the entire community, setting the stage for the upcoming year.
The orientation continued as parents of EY ES headed into classroom meetings at Koi Building. Here, they had the opportunity to meet with homeroom teachers, understand classroom expectations, and establish a strong home-school connection that is crucial to students' development.
For new MS HS students, their journey began with the student orientation led by the Student Council (Stuco). This activity allowed them to learn about SWA’s culture, values, and routines from their peers. This student-led initiative not only conveyed information but also created an environment where new students could immediately feel a sense of belonging and friendship.
Your participation in Parent Orientation Day was greatly appreciated, as parents became active participants in their child's educational journey. This shared understanding and collaboration laid the groundwork for effective communication and cooperation throughout the academic year.
School Laptop Policy
As we move forward into the new academic term, we would like to bring to your attention an important update regarding our school's laptop policy.
Emerging from the pandemic era, a few students opt for Windows laptops and begin to bring them to school. Given the circumstances prevailing during that period, we extend them some flexibility. However, as we are already fully face-to-face and in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Academic Year 23/24 MS HS Handbook (page 19, "IT Policy"), we are confirming our technology requirements to enhance the efficiency and security of our school network and reinstating the longstanding Apple Only device policy that has been in place since the inception of our school. With that in mind, please kindly note that effective Monday, 14 August 2023, all students using Windows laptops will be required to switch to use MacBook as their designated device for school-related activities.
This approach is in line with our commitment to providing a seamless and secure digital learning environment for our students. We are proud to be an Apple School and by utilizing MacBooks, we can better ensure compatibility with our network systems, software applications, and online resources. This change will contribute to a more productive and streamlined educational experience for both students and faculty. This step also aligns with one of the school's objectives to attain the status of an Apple Distinguished School.
Here are the key points to note:
Effective Date: The policy will take effect on Monday, August 14, 2023. From this date on, Windows laptops will not be able to connect to the school network.
Device Requirements: Students are required to bring a MacBook to school for internet access and educational activities. MacBook offers the compatibility and security needed for our network environment.
Getting Internet Access: To facilitate a smooth transition, we kindly ask students to bring their MacBook to the IT Helpdesk, located on the 1st floor of Arts Building, near the Theatre, for setup and configuration. Our IT staff will ensure that each MacBook is properly configured for school network access.
We understand that this change might require an adjustment for some families. However, we believe that by standardizing on MacBook, we can provide a more cohesive and efficient learning experience for all students.
Should you have any questions, concerns, or require assistance in acquiring a MacBook, please do not hesitate to contact our IT department at it@swa-jkt.com.
