Wyoming State Solutions Project Overview

The data you will be collecting with the project will aid teachers in meeting the Wyoming Standards for Physical Education as well as providing data showing the importance of quality physical education and the benefits of the IHT software and hardware.
We will use the technology to capture data collection from multiple schools (and districts) from K-12, that can unite teachers as a collective group while still empowering them individually with the proper tools and resources necessary to implement effective change can ensure physical educators deliver quality programming that achieves SHAPE America’s Essential Components of Physical Education well designed physical education program (2015);
• Meets the needs of all students;
• Keeps students active for most of physical education class time;
• Teaches self-management;
• Emphasizes knowledge and skills for a lifetime of physical activity; and
• Is an enjoyable experience for all students (CDC, 2013, p. 12).
Overall goals of the project:
- Maximizing total activity time in physical education class.
- Maximizing MVPA during physical education class.
- Creating an awareness of the social and emotional benefits of Physical Education.(The questionnaire for this goal will be forthcoming).
WAHPERD State Solution Objectives: Provide(1) physical fitness activities including: (a) Fitness education and assessment to help students understand, improve, or maintain their physical well-being; (b) instruction in a variety of motor skills and physical activities designed to enhance the physical, mental, and social or emotional development of every student; (c) development of, and instruction in, cognitive concepts about motor skills and physical fitness that support a lifelong healthy lifestyle; (d) opportunities to develop positive social and cooperative skills through physical activity participation; or (e) opportunities for professional development for teachers of physical education to stay abreast of the latest research, issues, and trends in the field of physical education.
PEP STUDENT ASSESSMENT EXPECTATIONS:
In addition to collecting total activity time and MVPA, scores for the following Fitnessgram assessments will need to be collected.
Assessments will be completed for all students involved in the project; however, scores will be recorded for grades 4-12
- VO2 Max Pacer 15 or 20 meter (Appropriate distance for facility size)
- Curl ups
- Height
- Weight
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
REMINDERS TO TEACHERS
- An assessment needs to be created with the above measures.
- In order to effectively follow the protocol of the 8-step fitness education process, we prefer this take place at the beginning of your course schedule.
- Once your groups have been created please use your Zones on a daily basis
- When creating activities in the software be sure to select an appropriate intensity level goal.
