EHS Marching Band students participate in summer band camp, local parades, weekly after-school rehearsals, and weekly football games outside of the school day. Marching Band lasts for the first three to four months and then transition into [sit-down] Tiger Band. If you like playing fun music, hanging with great people, and performing almost every week, you’ll love marching band - no audition required for woodwinds, brass, and color guard. Brass, Woodwind, and Color Guard students should register for "MU1008 Marching Band"
The EHS Drumline serves as the percussion section for the EHS Marching Band. The Drumline has a seperate Fall Semester class of its own to focus on techniques specific to the percussion idiom. Anyone with percussion experience can sign-up for drumline. Students participate in summer drum sectionals, summer band camp, local parades, weekly after-school rehearsals, and weekly football games outside of the school day. Placement on instruments is based upon an audition as well as the student's attitude, work ethic, and what best fits the ensemble. Following the Fall Semester, Drumline members move into the Concert Band or Symphonic Band in the Spring Semester. Drumline students should register for "MU1300 Percussion Ensemble (Drumline/Marching Percussion)" Returning drumline members are required to re-audition for instrument placement on Feb 6 and 10.
Concert Band starts after Marching Band has completed and is in the comfort of a warm, nicely lit band room and continues into the Spring Semester. Concerts range from performing in the EHS auditorium to playing for other bands at the Elitch Gardens Music Festival. This is a performance-oriented learning experience, and all class rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances are mandatory (2-3 evening performances per semester) Previous experience in Band is required, but no audition necessary. Symphonic Band is an advanced-level Spring Semester Brass, Woodwing, and Percussion ensemble, and it is designed to provide a high school band experience for students who have a thorough understanding of the basic fundamentals of music. Symphonic Band will perform quality literature from all stylistic periods. This is a performance-oriented learning experience and all class rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances are mandatory (2-3 evening performances per semester). Students should register for Marching Band in the Fall semester, and audition for this spring semester class (auditions for 2025 due Feb 8, 2024). Auditioning students should register for "MU1101B Concert Band (Spring semester only)." Current Symphonic Band students should register for "MU1400 Symphonic Band (Spring semester only)" - Returning Symphonic Band members are not required to re-audition.
Jazz Band is offered as a year-long class at Erie High School. The group has several performances during the year including concerts, community events, and various regional jazz festivals. The course of instruction is designed to acquaint members with basic styles of jazz and pop music and to obtain the desired proficiency of this music to represent our school in performance. All woodwind and brass students should be registered for Marching Band (Fall) and Concert/Symphonic Band (Spring). Selection for '24-'25 Jazz Band is based on '24 Spring semester auditions. Jazz Band students should register for "MU1201A & 1201B Jazz Band" Returning Jazz Band members are not required to re-audition.
