January 30th, 1933
Hitler becomes chancellor of Germany and later becomes Dictator. This results in the happening of the second world war, although it may have happened under a different person.
September 30, 1938
The Treaty of Munich served the purpose to annex the Sudetenland from Germany. Later on Germany will seek to regain this land as one of their first moves in the second world war.
September 1, 1939
Germany invades Poland, causing the Allies to declare war on Germany. This causes Allied powers to declare war on Germany.
September 3, 1939
Britain and France declare war on Germany. As a result the second world war has started and involved international powers.
September 17, 1939
The Soviet Union also invades Poland wanting their share of the country. Due to Germany also capturing territory this results in the soviet alliance with Britain and France.
September 27, 1939
Warsaw was captured by the Germans. 9 days later Poland surrenders. This proves to be a strong point for the Germans and one of their many victories.
December 13, 1939
The British defeat a German battleship as the first major navel engagement. The British with their strong navel fleet prove to be a contender in the Second World War with the first major battle.
April 8, 1940
Germany invades Norway ending the "Phony War". It is also know as the sitzkrieg. It was a stage war as there was almost no fighting.
May 10, 1940
Winston Churchill becomes prime minister, the same day Germany invades Belgium. Churchill shaped the Allied powers and altered them to the threat of the soviets westward expansion.
May 10, 1940
The Blitz Krieg starts. Germany launches attacks on the west, this fast and strategic war tactic was used by the Germans and their enemies surrendered in little time.
June 14, 1940
German forces take Paris and France surrenders 11 days later. This is part of the Germans blitzkrieg tactic in which they cover much land leaving their enemies unprepared. Later on this tactic will be seen in many middle eastern wars.
July 10, 1940
Germany launches an air war known as the Battle of Britain. This not only showed the strength of the British people but it also allowed the Americans to set up bases and this made the D-Day storming possible.
December 7, 1941
Japan attacks the US, bombing Pearl Harbor. This leads to the United Sates declaring war on Japan, however in the vulnerable state they are in Germany uses this to their advantage to declare war in the United States 4 days later.
November of 1942
In this month the Battle of Stalingrad occurred. The result of this catastrophe was the death of many Germans. It stopped the advance of Germans into soviet territory.
September 3, 1943
Italy surrenders. Italy surrenders to the allied powers, this allows the allied powers to force the Germans to retreat back toward Germany.
June 6, 1944
The most important event in world war 2 was D-Day. It was the allies landing on the beaches of Normandy in a surprise attack against Germany. This was a turning point for the war in Europe.
April 28&30, 1945
Mussolini is captured and executed, and Hitler commits suicide in an underground bunker with his wife. This led to the collapse of Germany, as the Italians fell to the Allies and the Germans to the Allies and Soviets.
May 7, 1945
Germany Surrenders unconditionally. After the soviets invaded Berlin, it fell and Germany surrendered. This stopped military operations, and allowed them to be taken into captivity. A day later is V.E. day in Europe.
August 6&8, 1945
The united states bomb Hiroshima first then Nagasaki. This led to the surrender of the Japanese, and the end of world war 2.
August 14, 1945
The Japanese surrender. After the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese surrendered. This ends the second world war and the most destructive war in history.
